I am so proud of myself!!
Chalk this one up to "taking care of myself while I am still obese"!
A couple weeks ago I posted to see if anyone knew of inexpensive office chairs that are built for large people. I was going to save up money and buy myself one. Well--since then, I decided that I just couldn't stand the pain everyday until I saved the money so I asked my boss if the college I work for could buy me a chair. I gave her the link to the $240 chair that I found, hoping that it wouldn't be too costly. WELL--not only am I going to get a chair--they are going to have ergonomic specialists come in and evaluate my work station and then recommend a chair. My boss said that there is another man on campus who is very large and they evaluated him and recommended a REALLY nice and pricey chair and my boss thinks I will get one just as nice!!
I am so happy and relieved! My last employer had purchased a nice big chair for me and it really made a difference in the amount of energy I had in the evenings (being in pain from sitting all day takes a lot of energy out of you!) and it also improved my work performance because I wasn't constantly adjusting and readjusting trying to get more comfortable!
The evaluation will be a little embarassing, but oh well--I need it!!!
Thanks everyone for your ideas and support!!
Sounds like you work for a great company...
I sat on the same ole chair for years, cause they kept buying cheap chairs from Costco,so I waited and found one thru a catalog, it was 240.00 I think. I went ahead and ordered it without asking my boss. He gave me a little grief over it..but I explained that some people had already gone thru a couple of the 99.00 costco chairs. While I was using my old crappy chair. So he said it was cool.
The evaluation sounds interesting, let us know how it goes..

Yeah! That's the way to do it! I'm glad your boss was so understanding... gotta love that.
Good for you - a comfortable chair can make a real difference in how you feel by the end of the day. Don't worry about the ergonomics assessment; I've had that done several times, and it was very unobtrusive and not at all embarrassing. Regardless, it'll be worth it when you have a good, comfortable chair to spend your day in!
