I'm thinking of getting a pedometer but don't know anything about them. Does anyone have any information that can help me figure out what to look for; preferred brands or ones to stay away from, features to be sure to get, etc. How much should it cost? Thanks, Julie

Hello, Julie I just got a pedometer in my hospital class, it is where you go and they tell you about what to expect while you are in the hospital and they gave us bubbles to blow for fun when we feel down and a pedometer, it was great, this is a very small tiny one about the size of a matchbook and cant even notice it, I think the smaller the better, it really works to, Thats the only advice I have, Take care Kristy

I have had several different pedometers, but none work right for me--most likely due to my size.  When I clip it on my waist, I think my fat jiggles cause it to add extra steps!  Hopefully once I have lost some weight I will be able to use on--I think it would be a great motivating tool!  As far as price, I would pick one that is between $10 and $15.00--the cheap ones ($5) don't work well at all.

Julie,

I've been a heavy pedometer user for about 16 months now.  The current one I use is from Weigh****chers.  It is $25.  You can get a good one for $20.  You don't need that many features.  I think, steps, distance, calories, time are enough.  The cheap ones don't work.  Make sure you clip it straight up.  If it leans to the side, it won't count right.  I'm addicted to wearing mine.  I always try to get in 10,000 steps a day, which is close to 5 miles.  I usually only get 2 to 3 miles in at the gym, so I get my other couple of miles by always parking far away and walking over to people's desks instead of emailing or calling them.

Julie,

They used to need a crash cart for me too...but, look at me now!  150 lbs less makes a big difference!

I got one at stop and shop for hmm maybe $7 and it works no problem. and we got a free one from AARP and it works fine. i will occasionally use mine to keep track of how far i am walking. - good idea!  you'll be surprised at how FEW steps a day y ou are actually taking, and will be wanting to walk more so you can see that pedometer move

i found them at S&S on an end cap near the pharmacy. they had a battery powered mixer(like for shakes) pill boxes, shaker cups, pedometers, pill splitters and such. i think it was $7. they also had some over by the vitamins/diet aides and they were $13.
