Back From the Funeral
I went down to Colorado Springs today to attend the funeral for PJ's dad.
The weather was terrible here in metro Denver (pouring rain), but by the time I arrived in the Springs an hour later, the sun had started to break through the clouds.
When I arrived, PJ was in the reception area of the funeral home greeting folks. We had a chance to visit, and I conveyed everyone's good wishes, prayers, and thoughts. She was very appreciative that folks were thinking of her and her family.
There were some newspaper articles about her dad, and a scrapbook of her parents memories that was compiled for their 40th wedding anniversary. I enjoyed looking through the scrapbook.
PJ's dad was obviously well regarded, as the chapel was full. The service started with a slideshow of family photos. The pastor gave a nice sermon, and one of Mr. Burton's friends talked about some of his favorite memories, and got a *****oked up during the speech. It wasn't terribly sad at all, in fact, there were times when I was laughing so hard, I worried I was making a spectacle of myself.
I was unable to stay for the reception, but I was glad to have talked with PJ prior to the service. She is doing well under the cir****tances. I guess her dad was in a great deal of pain, so for that reason, they are glad he is no longer suffering.
Her dad will be buried in Kansas, so she will be gone all week.

PS:
PJ's birthday is tomorrow. I plan to send her an email acknowledging her birthday, without the usual "Happy Birthday" hoopla. Her 1-yr surgery anniversary was last week, too.
