Five Day Pouch Test Results
Kellie, Triple C posted the link for the pouch test (thanks, Triple C)!
What surprised me about the pouch test is that it was pretty easy to follow. The first two days reminded me of my pre-op Optifast regimen, and it was almost liberating not having to think about what I wanted to eat. That's why I'm thinking about doing the pouch test each month. It's a good reinforcement of the disciplinary component of life as a post-op, as well as keeping the old pouch tuned up.

I'm thinking I may do the same thing - a once-a-month, 5-day reminder about what the rules are and why it's important to follow them. I also like the idea of having a couple days where I don't have to think about what to eat - just grab some liquid protein and hit the road. Would be a nice break from standing in front of the fridge, door open, wondering what should I eat today? Yogurt, cottage cheese, and turkey? Or should I have turkey, yogurt, and cottage cheese???

You are welcome, Kix!
I live across the state, in the KC area. I'm looking to visiting STL really soon, thinking of doing a camping trip w/in the next couple of months. Yep, winters can be tricky in these parts. I've seen some really mild ones (no coat weather) and some awful winters. Of course when I lived in Chicago, I remember worse weather. I've lived in MN and IA also, so MO winters are a breeze in comparison. The summer's here in MO?...well these last few have been something left to be desired *L*!

Hi, Kix. On days 3, 4, and 5, did you eat any fruits or vegetables? Or did you stick to just proteins? I'm not clear whether the plan intends to include or exclude those things. Also, on days 4 and 5, did you eat eggs at all? Or did you have a firm protein and a solid protein for breakfast? (I'm thinking I would eat eggs for breakfast on days 3, 4, and 5 if that seems okay.) Anyway, thanks for any additional information you can provide; it's appreciated!

Now, remember, I am kind of a weirdo when it comes to eating, but this is what I did:
No eggs, because I am highly allergic to egg protein (damnation, I love eggs). On Day 3, eat whatever soft protein you feel like eating. You could eat eggs for all your meals on Day 3 if you chose to do so. I ate tuna, with chopped up bits of onion and celery.
I eat mostly protein, not many vegies (I used to love vegies, but not so much any more) and no fruit. I wasn't a fruit eater pre-WLS, either. The way I interpreted the plan, if you need to incorporate a fruit or veggie snack in the afternoon, you could do so beginning on Day 3. However, I do recall a note that said if you had carb withdrawl on Days 1 and 2, you should eat a small piece of melon or an orange to combat it. Otherwise, I believe it's no produce until Day 3.
Days 4 and 5 should be firm protein. No problem for me, I love protein! Yum, yum, yum!
Don't forget to drink plenty of water, and stick to the 15 minute rule beginning on Day 3.

Thanks for the additional info, Kix. I'm a bit of a weirdo when it comes to eating too; perhaps that why I enjoy your posts so much
I think I've got enough information about what I should do on the 5-day pouch test now. I looked at my calendar and can't start this until 9/18. (I have various lunches and business meetings already scheduled already, and don't have 5 days clear to control all my food choices until 9/18. Social butterfly that I am....)
Anyway, thanks again for the additional information. I had made it to Onederland, but have regained a few pounds. I want to find a way to get to Onederland and stay there. Hopefully this pouch test will help get things moving in the right direction!
