SURGEON APPOINTMENT TODAY
Well thats over with! I had blood drawn, urinalysis & physical. They tell me I will be scheduled for surgery around mid November!! Woooohhhhooooooooo
The 11 lbs I just lost DO NOT count toward my 10% mandatory loss before surgery.
but thats ok. I have to be on the Medifast diet probably starting Oct 1st for SIX WEEKS!!!!!!!!!! OMG! No Birthday cake for me this year (Oct 20th) and surely no Thanksgiving dinner! That realty i****ting me hard, but I am trying to stay positive. I find myself feeling kind of weepy these days...is that normal? The Dr's office sets up all my testings on one day...cool. They are making me have a colonoscopy
since I am over 50 and never had one. I'm dreading that more than the surgery!! Well I am definetly on my way...I have such mixed emotions.

Emotions are totally normal and probably aren't going to stop anytime soon.
I remember when I told my husband about deciding to have surgery - once he absorbed it, one of the first things he said was "what about Thanksgiving?" I found that pretty funny actually, of all things to be thinking about in the middle of March. I said, don't worry, you aren't having surgery, you can still have Thanksgiving. He said "but I don't want to eat all that in front of you" (I think he's more worried that I won't cook Thanksgiving though haha). He is having a hard time eating by himself though, so I look forward to at least being able to share some foods with him again soon.
Really though, I KNOW that Thanksgiving would be a haaaard time to be on the medifast diet, or your post-op liquids. I had a hard time not breaking the pre-op diet on my birthday too. If its any consolation, I am on the post-op liquid diet now and for the first few days I wanted regular food but now I don't care at all. I think those cravings were more in my head and habit than really hunger. (except for my ever-growing desire for a piece of cheese)
I am so excited for you, congratulations on your surgery appt and impending date! It'll be nice to get all of that testing over with in one (long) day instead of dragging it out over two months like I did.
Best Wishes,
Jenn
Your hubby sounds like mine. I am more worried about him missing Thanksgiving than he is. He insists he needs to be near me in case I need anything. I say I'll probably be napping alot since it'll be like less than 2 weeks post op. I am trying to convince him to go to him mom's for a couple hours. He is so sweet and considerate. He should lose about 50 lbs also, so I am hoping that will happen naturally for him...he wants to. I am also going to make some dinners and freeze them for him a few weeks before my surgery. HARD part is, I cook lunch & dinner for a patient of mine at my house then bring it to her when I visit her for treatments twice daily(I'm a nurse). I'm afraid I won't have the energy to shop & cook for her for a few weeks!
So, just to get this straight..you had the gastric bypass done laparoscopically?? Can I ask your age range??

Haha,
my mother is actually 46. She was a young mom. But I'd be more than happy to take you as a surrogate mom if you need a daughter, Kix. You'd be the coolest!

Congrats on your getting your surgery scheduled, I had my preop appointment the day before thanksgiving, and since I hadn't loss all the weight I was suppose to, she put me on a two week liquid diet until my surgery, which was Dec 5 05. I said "tomorrow is Thanksgiving?" she says "so" what is more important...She was right. It was very hard, especially after surgery and being xmas time, but it is sooooo worth it. Here it is 20 months later and I am down 288 lbs. Its hard to believe.
In case your wondering I was 43 when I had my surgery. All your emotions are totally normal..
Keep us posted..

You are absolutely right..I probably won't want to eat anyway...and that reminds me. I make a killer turkey soup...I can surely have the broth from that! Thank you so much for helping me re-program my hard disk (lol) that thinks food food food....I need to now think...alternatives!!! I am 54 but had ealy menopause due to hysterectomy. I'm usually a very even mild mannered type having never had PMS or any mood swings. I hope that follows thru during post op times, but I'm not gonna fret about it. So did you drink a shake why everyone around you ate turkey & trimmings?
I dunno, if you are having surgery around mid-November, you will probably be ready for turkey carcass soup by Thanksgiving! Broth only. Depending on the post-op plan your surgeon follows, you might even be up to soft foods by then, so you could have a small bit of mashed potatoes with turkey gravy, or dark meat turkey mashed into little bitty pieces. To be truthful, you probably won't be all that hungry for any of it, even though right now you're thinking it will be hard not to be able to eat all those good foods.
I didn't get the weepies until I was a post-op, and I think it came from the hormones rushing out of all my disappearing fat. I was too excited about surgery to be emotional. I'm probably more emotional now than I was pre-op, but part of that could be menpause.
I turn 50 (cough cough) in December, so I'm sure my HMO will start prodding me (err, poor choice of words) to schedule a colonoscopy.
Is Medifast like Optifast? If so, I bought several different flavors of DaVinci and Torini sugar free coffee syrups to add to my meal shakes so it gave me a variety of flavors rather than just chocolate or vanilla every meal.
