Gym Is Open (Tuesday)
It's nice to be back and able to exercise!
I'm lucky in that my WLS counselor has a background in kinesiology and sports medicine, so he is a good source of information regarding my workout. I told him I'd read about the body becoming accustomed to exercise and thus it doesn't provide enough of a benefit. I mentioned I felt like I'd hit a plateau since I increased my in-line skating exercise to 45-60 minutes per day. He said the idea is to "fool" the body into increasing metabolism by changing up one's routine every day, and not to do the full 60 minutes on the in-line skater every day.
I went to the rec center this afternoon and did 20 minutes on the in-line skating machine at level 2 instead of level 1. I did all the weight machines, upping some of them to 50 lbs and keeping others at 30 lbs. Increasing them to 50 lbs meant I only did 10 reps each, but I certainly felt it.
I also tried some sort of cross-trainer machine. I hopped on it and hit the QUICK START button and before I knew it, I looked like Wyle E. Coyote hanging off one of his Acme Road Runner catcher machines! Going backwards, no less! Yikes!
Once I figured out what in the heck the machine did in terms of exercise, I was able to stay on it for three minutes before I was too worn out to continue. I may try it again another day, at a slower speed.
