I am curently 431 pounds and my BMI is around 73 or so. My question is this ...I have not had a menstral cycle in over a year.. Would it be possible that after the surgery I will have one...Believe me I do not miss them at all.....

I think its pretty likely, if everything in your system is normal and you aren't menopausal, that you will start having periods again.  Fat stores estrogen so a lot of estrogen will start flowing as you melt - that's why my surgeon insists on two forms of birth control for women of childbearing age.

This is a really good question. I weigh around the same as you and I havent had a period since September of 2006-almost a year.   I'm 29 years old, and I've tried to get pregnant with the past 10 years and no luck.  I've been told once you lose a significant amount of weight, your chances increase. I dont miss my period either, but when you go this long without one...it kinda scares ya. Take care.

I'll just have to say Do not give up on getting pregnant. I was told that it would be 1 chance out of 1.5million that I would get pregnant I it happened in 2002 but I also miscarried..I have RH factor...So don't give up.....practise practise and practise

speaking from personal experience, unless you are old enough for menopause, you will definitely start back up.....  ever since I hit 300+ I've had irregular periods, I'd have one that would last for 6 wks and be a big mess and then not have one for 6 months or more, then repeat the ordeal again and again.... since the month after surgery I've been as regular as clock work.....  And like the other poster said, estrogen is stored in your fat cells, so when you lose alot of weight fast it gets dumped into your system big time... so if you get all emotional, crying alot, sad alot, mad alot, feeling like you're PMS'ing all the time, this is probably the reason.... it's ok to ask your doc for some meds to get you through.....  Hugs,

Pat, Trust me as sure as the fat is going to leave the hormones you will get a period.  I am 52 years old and had not had a period for several years.  I assumed I was menopausal.  Three days after surgery I got a full blown period and had one for up to 5 months after.  It has stopped again.  I am hoping I am done but you never know.  Good luck.   Jeanne

Jeanne, I thought that maybe I was going thru earlymenopause cause of the heat flashes and lack of a period for so long..can I still hope that I am menopausing...

Its really interesting to me that several of you have BMI's near mine (and mine is even higher), but I've never missed a period, they are clockwork.   I still worry about getting pregnant at this weight.  Amazing how different people can be!  I wish you all the best! Jenn
