Crystalline Fructose

Have you seen Crystalline Fructose listed as an ingredient in your "Health", "Lo-Carb" Or other "Diet" product? Guess what? It's crystallized high fructose corn syrup. No wonder I have been loving my Weigh****cher's yogurt. Which happens to say "Sweetened with Sucralose" on the front of the carton. Here's the site for basic information about sugars, where I got the information below: www.sugar.org

"What is crystalline fructose?

Crystalline fructose is produced by allowing the fructose to crystallize from a fructose-enriched corn syrup. The term “crystalline fructose” is listed in the ingredient statements of foods and beverages using this corn sweetener. It is important to understand that the “crystalline fructose” listed as an ingredient comes from cornstarch, not fruit.

Crystalline fructose can be used in the same foods as the high fructose corn syrups, or in any food that contains sugar." - www.sugar.org

If you want to learn even more, go to www.fitshack.com. He explains how HFCS is made and more. Yikes!!!!!! If anyone is interested, I did find a Protein shake made with Stevia, 20gr protein/serving. Haven't tried it yet, but it's made by the same company that makes the one I now use that has regular fructose in it. They also have one with sucralose, but I'm going to see if it has this crap as well. Oy veh!, -J

I kind of like stevia but the rest of the sugar substitutes, no way!  I've argued with my dietician about it, but I'd rather just not have a sweet taste at all than have sugar substitutes.   I wish they made more ready to drink proteins that weren't based on sweet flavors.  I'd like V-8 flavored or beef stock or something, no more chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla!

Okay, I'm officially grossed out now.  Beef stock RTD protein drink?    I like the flavor of beef stock, I'm just not sure I want whey or soy mixed in with it. That does remind me, Unjury does make a protein powder that is chicken flavored.  Of course, I'm pretty sure it isn't as tasty as homemade chicken stock, but it's a start! Kix

Well someone must agree with me if they made something chicken flavored  I wonder if its any good.  I plan on using unflavored powder, whey or soy.  I have a think of soy powder I need to use from when I went through a "make a smoothie for breakfast every day" phase on the Zone diet.  I have always made and bought a lot of soups so I expect soup will be my staple for a while, we'll see.  Thanks for the info, I might get some nectar too.

Thank you J for that informative message.  I am diabetic so I can't afford to be "fooled" by products I think are safe for me!  Thanks so much for caring enough to share!    Jeanine

Hey, I am with Jennifer on this. The posters on the DS board tell me that sweet things taste too sweet after the surgery. Somehow your tastes change and when it does I think I will be looking for beef flavored protein drinks. Maybe we can invent something LOL.
