Well maybe you guys can help me with this one. When I went to see the doctor who is overseeing all the patients for possible rny ( I have hmo) he told me to come back  in two months in between that time I would start by taking a nutrition class to help me start to lose some weight . He told me not to go crazy just do what the nutritionist wants you to do and don't lose alot like 20 pounds or anything I would like to see about 6 pounds(swear to God that is what the man said ) Well a week later I get the call to start Nutrition class well I weighed in and had already lost 3 pounds with out trying but I figured it was a fluke of water so I  go learn alot of neat stuff about protein and complex carb versus refined carbs and I just try to eat health and move more. not run just get around and work. some days I was better than others my daughter had a birthday was not bad but ate a few chips and salsa. Had as work trip stayed in a hotel and order pizza in with my coworker (health food does not deliver) bu****ched my portion. the only thing I did diffrent from the nutritionist orders was to eat 6 meals a day and sometimes I missed a snack or two but at work that is hard to do. and the snack before bed well I am really bad about that one becase I was trained with all the diets I have ever been on not to eat right before I go to bed. Well guys I am scared I went to my nutrions class tonite and weighed in I lost 22 pounds for a total of 25 pounds. I not only lost the 20 pounds the doctor told me not to lose in two months I lost that plus almost all of what he asked me and I did it in one month. I know this sounds really stupid to be crying about but even the nutrionist said oh Dr Dehlgroff is not going to be happy with that. I feel stupid on the one hand I am fired up I lost 25 pounds since 6/7/07 one month 4 days just by given up pepsi and eating more protein and complex carbs and getting off my but at work and walking extra places . ON the other hand I not only did what the doctor told me not to but I did it in one month what if he says well hell guess you don't need the surgery you can do this on your own. I am scared has anybody else gone through anything similar?????

I've never heard of a surgeon that told their patients not to lose too much weight during their pre-op phase.  As for how to deal with your surgeon, tell him that you're generally following the advice of the nutritionist and that you are working hard to be compliant.  You're doing this because you want to show him that you can and will be compliant after you have surgery.   Also, I would just flat out ask him why he didn't want you to lose 20 pounds in 2 months.  What is his theory or reason behind this requirement?  Perhaps if you understand his rationale better, it may make more sense and help you make appropriate choices.  Do not allow yourself to be intimidated by your surgeon; remember that he works for you and you have the right to ask questions and be fully informed.   Good luck on your continuing journey, and girl, don't cry about having lost 25 pounds; that's a great accomplishment and I applaud you for it!   Kellie

BLESS YOUR HEART... I CAN SEE THE CONFUSION OF WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO REACT. JEEZ... DOESNT HE KNOW THE MORE YOU LOSE BEFORE YOUR SURGERY THE BETTER ON ALL ENDS. FROM THE OPERATION POINT OF YOUR LIVER SHRINKING TO YOU NOT HAVING AS MUCH TO LOSE AFTER. YOU JUST GO IN AND TELL THIS DOCTOR THAT THIS IS WHAT IT IS AND YOU ARE JUST PREPARING TO CHANGE YOUR WHOLE EATTING PATTERN FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. AND LET HIM KNOW THAT THIS IS JUST A SIGN OF HOW GREAT YOU WILL DO AFTER THE SURGERY. DONT YOU GET ALL WORKED UP ABOUT IT. HECK, IF HE DOESNT DO THE SURGERY HONEY THERE ARE ALOT MORE OUT THERE THAT WILL WITH SOMEONE STICKING TO THE PLAN TO WORK HARD TO HAVE WHAT IS NEEDED.. SO LET US KNOW AND KEEP THE FAITH.... IT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU. HUGS MARGE

Karma....What would life be without it?  250lbs gone! 410/160... Life's sweet!

Thank you Marge but unfortunatley this is the doctor before the surgeon I think the surgeon would be happy but this is the HMO edrocronoligst who the insurance sends you to for approval, thats why I freeking out I know I can lose weight I have done it before but I need this tool to help me make this a life change and not a diet. diets don't work when you fall of the wagon you end up gaining the weight back plus some. But if he says nope the the insurance won't approve it and I can't pay for it.

Oh, I sooo wish I had you problem.  I just got weighed in again today and I only lost 8 lbs this month, bringing my total to 32 in 3 months.  I am very bummed because I complied best this month and lost less, worked out way more and followed their diet much better.  Anyway, enough about me I think you should be happy that you lost the weight, especially in such a healthy manner.  If the doc is mad, ask him why.  Say you just followed the nut's advice as perfectly as you could and worked really hard with exercise, which you know will really help you recover from surgery faster.  You are the ideal pre-op, willing to lose needed weight to make your surgery safer.  And its never been that you can't lose weight, its just that you always yoyo back and gain more eventually. Congrats on your weight loss - I am soooo proud of you!

thanks Dunny, as for you you worked out way MORE? I know it stinks but don't forget Muscle weighs more than fat. I know that is not going to help us get to the losers bench but it is good. and in the end more muscle means higher matabolisms which inturn will help us burn more fat. I am very proud of you

I don't get it.My doctor encouraged me to lose as much as possible prior to surgery because the heavier you are, the more risks you have while under anethesia.Maybe they think, if you are able to lose that much that you don't need surgery, but as we all know what goes down surely comes back up and then some.Good Luck on this!
