Hi. I went to my surgeon with my approval in hand and I have my surgery date. I am scheduled for the DS on Aug. 14, 2007. Dr. Schweitzer would like me to lose 25 pounds if I can. 25 pounds in 6 weeks should certainly be doable. So wooooooooooooohooooooooo. I am so excited to have a date. Jo

If you ask me, I don't think you could have a better surgery date than August 14th!   I sometimes wish I'd had the DS, but I had to fight my HMO as it was to get any WLS, and they do not offer DS, only RNY (and now lapband, but I wasn't ever considering lapband).  Even so, I'm happy with my RNY, and I wish you success in losing 25 lbs.  I feel like an Optifast pimp sometimes, but you can drop a heck of a lot of weight in six weeks on Optifast.  Have you asked your doctor about it?  Since he isn't mandating the weight loss prior to WLS, your insurance may not cover the cost of the Optifast.  Whatever method you choose to lose weight pre-op, I'm sure you'll do well. Congratulations Jo!  If you are a caffeine addict like I was, I also suggest breaking that habit so you don't have to deal with the incredible headaches as well as surgery recovery at the same time. We are here for you! Lori
