My annual blood work and surgeon visit
A couple of weeks ago I had my annual blood draw. I'm 2 years out. My blood work looked fantastic as far as my A1c, my c-reactive protein, my cholesterol (total was 187, HDL-the good cholesterol- was 75!!!) I'm so proud of those numbers! My iron and ferritin was low, which is surprising as I pay such close attention to my supplements. My calcium was normal, but, right at the low end. I guess this malabsorption issue that this surgery brings is real! So, I'm doubling up my iron for now and switching to a liquid form of calcium citrate that should absorb better. I made the mistake though of choosing a brand of liquid calcium that tastes like pina colada...ycch!
Then I met with my WLS surgeon yesterday. I was afraid to meet with her since my weight loss stopped last September and I'm up 6 lbs since then. She wasn't mad at me. She still seems very pleased. She says that WLS surgeons are now considering a successful patient one that has lost 50% of their excess weight and keeps that off. I needed to lose 216 lbs to get to the normal weight range for my height and age. I lost 150, so I guess I'm successful in that sense. She was very pleased that I've maintained my exercise regime. She wants me to focus on celebrating my successes. But, of course, keep going to weigh****chers and eating as healthy as possible so as not to gain anymore. This is a struggle. But, I'm so much healthier and my blood work shows it!

Karma....What would life be without it? 250lbs gone! 410/160... Life's sweet!
Lori,
Is the liquid calcium citrate? We absorb citrate better than carbonate. I take Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate chewables. They come in several flavors. Also ferrous sulfate can irritate our pouches. I take carbonyl iron called Tender Iron from vitalady.com.
