Got a date . . . but got to lose 26 lbs!

Hi, everybody! I'm usually just lurking around, but I got a "tentative" surgery date today of July 6 (yes, that's just 2 weeks away!). But the surgeon says I've got to lose 26 lbs before then or we'll have to reschedule. I told him I wanted to try and see what happens!! So . . . how in the world am I going to drop that kind of weight in 14 days? Has anyone out there done anything similar? How did you do it? I'm just going on a liquid shake, lo-cal nightmare of a diet, I guess. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Doc's just testing your committment to the surgery.  You can try one of two things: Adkins stage I, or do an optifast diet. What he's trying to do is burn the fat off your liver before surgery, and if you lose weight fast, that organ fat goes quickly!  You could do it with Adkins, or Opti/Medifast.  It's hard; but it's going to be worth it.  Hopefully, I'll be having surgery that week, too!! Best of luck. Jessica

I would also suggest a liquid high protein shake diet -- like Optifast, but you could instead use any of the quality protein mixes  that are low/no sugar -- EAS, Unjury, etc. Many times, your surgeon is wanting to make sure that you are show compliance in following a strict diet, and are willing to deny yourself for those few days before surgery to get the weight off before surgery.  This makes the procedure easier for both you and the surgeon, as well as an easier recovery since you will be in better health.

sleeplessrn and abidinginhim seem to have the answer just listen to them may I also add major amount of water when you flush the fat away from your liver and kindney I read somewhere that your Metobolism heats up But make sure that you take vitamins to and Crystal light has a hydration drink with super low calories to keep your lectrolytes up. I will pray for your sucess

I have lost about 20 lbs in a week doing the induction stage of atkins. I have a bit more weight to drop before my surgery can be scheduled at all. The other ladies gave great advice. I pray that you do really well and the pounds melt off!

Thanks for all the tips!  I've gotten through one complete day on the liquid/starvation thing. I would definitely be tempted to do atkins, but the last time I did that, my gall bladder almost exploded (or that's what it felt like). Anyway, I'm going to try to stick to the shakes, jello and popsicles. Yummy! I'll keep you posted on my progress. Keep your fingers crossed!!

I'm sticking like glue to the liquid plan . . . today makes 4 whole days completed. Only 10 more to go! I must say, I've got lots more energy, my legs/feet aren't as puffy (even with lymphedema), and the hunger seems to be fading away. Of course, I still want to eat, hungry or not! :) Thanks for all your comments and good luck wishes. I'll keep you posted. Hopefully, even if I fall a few pounds short of the goal, my doctor will see that I made a huge effort and will let me have the surgery anyway! We'll see . . .
