Sad News for My Family
My family has had a bit of sad news tonight.
My brother-in-law, who lives in Arizona, was recently evaluated by the Mayo Clinic to see if he is a suitable candidate for a liver transplant. He has chronic hepatitis C and has gotten progressively more ill through the years.
It turns out that he is not eligible for a transplant because not only has his liver developed cancerous tumors near the portal and hepatic arteries, there are blood clots within the arteries themselves that are most likely cancerous. The doctors estimate his life span at 6 months to 2 years.
I was prepared for this news, as I know that chronic hepatitis C complications often manifest as either cirrhosis or liver cancer. I tried to prepare my Arizona sister for this result, but she was so focused on him getting a liver transplant at Mayo that I'm pretty sure she didn't hear what I was telling her. She tends to hysterics, so I didn't press the issue.
Please pray, swing chickens, or chant on behalf of my sister, her husband, and their 10 year old daughter. I'm not asking for any kind of cure, just that they are able to come to terms with this news and spend whatever time he has left in joyous and peaceful ways. I really don't want her to spend the next 6 months to 2 years on the verge of becoming unhinged.
Thank you---
