I'm have a bit of a quandry in terms of birth control. I've been on Yasmin for a few years (although apparently the pill isn't as effective in obese people, I've had good luck probably because I am infertile from my weight or something) Anyway, I went off of Yasmin because the pill may not absorb well after surgery.
My gyno gave me three options, shots (which he was against because of the increased apetite), the NuvaRing, or a copper IUD. I can't do any of the hormonal IUDs because I haven't had any pregnancies. I am sort of nervous about the copper IUD because it can give you heavier periods and cramps, and I know anemia can be a concern after surgery in menstruating females. Also, rarely, an IUD could do damage that might prevent pregnancy in the future. One of the reasons I am having surgery is because we want to have children in a few years.
So anyway, I decided on NuvaRing. I have a couple of questions for you though.
If you have to use birth control, what kind do you use, and especially what did you use for a while after surgery?
Have you used NuvaRing and did you have any problems with it? I was mainly worried about getting it out each month, but that's actually ok. However, I am having problems with a constant light flow for the past two weeks and the worst cramps I've ever had, I started it 3 weeks ago on the first day of my period, and my period completely stopped. Then a week later I started this constant bleeding. I have another gyno appt in 2 weeks, but I wanted to know if anyone here had experienced anything like this? Its a little irritating because I'm not even sure if its safe to have sex. I miss my Yasmin!
Finally, does anyone have experience with the copper IUD? Because I am starting to think about that being the best option since I'd be SURE it was working and I wouldn't have to think about it at all. I am just leery of the IUD for some reason. I already have an IVC filter, soon I'll have staples...how much metal does one girl really need to carry around in her body?
Thanks!
