I had to do the 6 months supervised diet. Well today was my 7th month appt. And  it didnt go well.I can't get a date until I stop gaining weight . When I first started the program I was 398. The next month I went down to 391. From there on I've been gainning weight. Now I'm 413 every month I gained 3-5 pounds. If I could do it on my own why would I need RNY? I'm ready to give up. I try to stop eating unheathly but its too hard. I have my good days then I have the bad days. Then I'm on prozac and they said that can be the cause of the weight gain. And if so how am I suppose to lose? And my doctor just doubled the prozac because of me still being depressed. I don't know what to do. All I know is I can't stop crying and I want WLS.

WOW I am so sorry to read you are going through this.

Your example is exactly what made me start loving my surgeon. First thing he said to me when I asked about having to lose before surgery was "If you could lose weight on your own you wouldn't be here". THAT was sooooooooo true.

Do you just have to show a loss? I know its another "diet" but give Atkins a try. If you do induction for 2 weeks to the letter you will lose for sure.

Best of luck to you!!

I am having a De-ja-vue.  Same thing,,different city.. If you have to just show as loss..one thing you  might wanna try is 2 weeks before your appoint.. cut out all sodas  and sugar products (definite a weight loss), drink plenty of water (more weight loss) and do a liquid diet for 2 days before your appointment.  Now that is not a lot.  Your motive is to show a weight loss and to get your surgery approved.  Most surgeons/doctors just want you to show a weight loss..not so much the amount but some.  If the surgery is that important to you as mines was to me,, you can do this for 2 weeks and have a lifetime of good health and less weight which comes with the surgery.  Can you do it?  I know you can.. Keep us informed.  good luck.

Oh, I so know what you're going through!   For two years I fought with my insurance to get approved for just a consult, no was always the answer. I'd end up putting on more weight from eating crap to try to make myself feel better. The only person I was really hurting was me, and I didn't even realize it. Please hang in there, remember everything you do right now your doing to create a happier, healthier, better you.  I have no advice, except to tell you have to want to do this or it will never work. You have to dip deeper inside yourself than you ever have/   Don't give up!

I can imagine how depressed and frustrated you must be feeling.  Please hang in there and keep on trying, sweetie!  Dieting is hard, even after surgery.  But I KNOW you can do it! I did want to say one other thing.  I think it is real important for your emotional health to be right before you have weight loss surgery.  Having a RNY will not cure your depression.  In fact, it may make it worse.  You won't have food as a comfort anymore and for me, that fact alone made me depressed somewhat after surgery.  If you go into the process already struggling with depression and have the surgery without addressing it, it could be a very difficult time for you.  Anyway, hang in there and I will be praying for you!  Hugs, Tracy

OK, now listen up babydoll, its a test! To see if you have enough will power to hang on to a new eating plan, most importantly to follow doctors orders. Have you had your psych eval yet? Is there a way you can have it from an uninformed doctor who will just give you the standard test without a lot of your history, thats if you therapist is not supportive, and you may have to have it from someone else because they have to be a barriatric therapist. If you can have it done that way, it will increase your chances of passing unless you have already. The advice about Atkins is good...anyone can do atkins, lotsa meat, and you will show the weight loss, once it is recorded, they will not care about what you gain after that. My daughter just went through this and finally got approved. Your point is so valid, about if you could lose why would you need wls. So breath deep, re-commit, and do it, you know you can, how bad do ya want it??? Smile! If you do not want to do Atkins PM me and we will come come up with something else. Actually the diet or program we follow is our new life will make you lose also., There are so many choices out there. I had a lot to lose, and I am still going, so don't throw in the towel, it ain't over till the fat lady sings, and I don't hear any singing!

Boy do I know how you feel about that 6 month supervised diet.  I have weigh in tomorrow for appointment 4.  So far I am maintaining at best.  But I try to do at least one day of liquids or very light eating before a weigh in.  The first time back I lost like 1.25lbs.  The second time back after Easter I gained 1.75lbs.  So I was higher than my original weigh in.  So I am hoping tomorrow that I will at least maintain.  Keep trying I know I am never giving up on this WLS.  We can do it together.  I eat more salads and drink more water now than I ever have, so even small changes are good. My thoughts and prayers are with you! Blessings Tina
