MADE ME PISSED!!
HELLO TO ALL,
JUST WANTED TO VENT SOME I THINK FROM SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY THAT WE CAN OR COULD HAVE ALL RELATED TO AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER... I HAD TO GO TO THOMASVILLE GA YESTERDAY BECAUSE MY FOSTER MOM WAS HAVING BACK SURGERY... WELL HER SURGERY WENT WELL AND WE WERE GOING OUT THE DOOR TO GO GRAB SOMETHING TO EAT WHILE SHE WAS IN RECOVERY... WE HAD BEEN THERE SINCE EIGHT THAT MORNING AND WAS ALREADY THREE IN THE AFTERNOON AND SO WE LEFT.... WELL WHILE SITTING THERE IN THE LOBBY ALL DAY LONG I HAD SEEN THIS VERY VERY HUGE OLDER LADY OFF AND ON IN A WHEELCHAIR. BLESS HER HEART SHE LOOKED LIKE ONE OF THE LADYS YOU SEE ON SOME OF THOSE TV SHOWS ABOUT THOSE HUGE TUMORS IN THE STOMACH. BUT WHILE SHE LOOKED LIKE THAT I CANT FOR SURE SAY IT JUST WASNT A SUPER MORBID OBESE LADY. IT WAS SO BAD IN THE FRONT OF HER STOMACH THAT HER STOMACH ALMOST DRAGGED THE GROUND IN THE FRONT... THAT IS HOW BAD IT WAS AND MY HEART JUST WENT OUT TO HER WHEN I SAW HER.WELL BACK TO THE STORY.... SHE WAS IN A WHEELCHAIR NOW THAT THEY PUT "NORMAL SIZE" FOLKS IN AND LET ME TELL YOU SHE WAS JUST HANGING ON BARELY IN IT.WE WERE GOING OUTSIDE LIKE I SAID AND TO THE RIGHT WAS A CAR AND A CROUD AROUND.... YOU KNOW WHAT IM FIXING TO TELL YA.... BLESS HER HEART SHE HAD FELL OUT.... THE DUMB &^*&$ PEOPLE HAD SOME SKINNY LIL TRANSPORTER TO TAKE HER TO THE CAR AND ACTUALLY GET HER TO PICK UP WITH FORCE AND PUT HER IN THE CAR. WELL YOU KNOW THAT WASNT GONNA HAPPEN. I CAN SAY SHE WAS AROUND FIVE HUNDRED EASY. SO WHEN WE CAME OUT SHE IS SITTING ON HER BOTTOM AND IS RIGHT THERE IN THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE HOSPITAL AT THE DOUBLE DOORS WITH HER POOR STOMACH SHINING TO EVERYONE AND BEING GAUKED AT BY ALL PASSER BYERS.. THEN THEY HAD ANOTHER LIL YOUNG GIRL COME UP AND TRY TO HELP AND COME ON TWO GIRLS??? ABOUT 100LBS SOAKING WET TRYING TO PICK UP A DEAD WEIGHT PERSON OF THAT SIZE??? AND SO WE WENT OVER AND ASKED COULD WE HELP AND MY FOSTER NIECE WHICH WAS RIGHT SIDE OF HER TRYED AND I TRYED TO NO AVAIL MOVED HER. SO WHITE COAT AFTER WHITE COAT CAME OUT AND WHEN THEY GOT TO THE DOUBLE DOORS WHERE SHE WAS JUST STOPPED WITH AMAZEMENT AND BEFORE IT WAS OVER WITH WAS A BLOWN OUT CIRCUS SIDE SHOW. I WAS FURIOUS!!! DAMN AT LEAST COVER HER POOR BODY UP THAT IS SHOWING TOTAL SKIN,ALL I HAD WAS MY PURSE AND EVEN A LARGE ONE LIKE MINE WOULD HAVE DONE NO GOOD. GET FRIGGIN WHEELCHAIRS THAT DONT CATER TO "EVERYBODY" AND HAVE SOMEONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO DEAL WITH SOMEONE OF SPECIAL NEEDS TO GET HER FROM WHEELCHAIR TO CAR YOU KNOW? NOONE IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD HAVE SOMEONE OF NO EXPERIENCE WITH HEAVY PEOPLE TAKE HER OUT. SHE WAS JUST THAT BAD. HELL, THERE IS NO WAY SHE COULD EVEN WALK WITH THAT HEAVY OF A STOMACH HANGING IN THE FRONT TO WHERE ITS ALMOST HANGING ON THE GROUND. SO FINALLY THEY GOT HER UP AND TOOK HER BACK IN THE HOSPITAL MOST LIKELY FOR FRIGGIN TESTS TO SEE IF SHE BROKE SOMETHNG.... I WAS SO SICK TO MY STOMACH OVER THE WHOLE ORDEAL THAT I WASNT EVEN HUNGRY ANYMORE.... AND THEY SAY THAT THE SOUTHERN STATES HAVE THE MOST OBESITY PROBLEMS ... WELL, CRAP, GET WITH THE PROGRAM AND HAVE EQUIPMENT TO DEAL WITH IT..... SO BEFORE I WENT TO BED LASTNIGHT ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS HOPING SHE WAS OK.....SORRY FOR THE VENTING BUT STILL BOTHERS ME THIS MORNING. AND I KNOW BEING AS BIG AS I WAS IS WHAT REALLY MAKES IT HIT SO CLOSE TO HOME. THAT COULD OF BEEN ME OR ANY OF US OUT THERE.... SO THANKS FOR THE BENT EAR THIS MORNING.... MARGE
Karma....What would life be without it? 250lbs gone! 410/160... Life's sweet!
It is so sad that something so simple turned in to something so sad. The should have known better than to send a little woman out with person of that size and in a regular size chair. Education is the key in this situation and maybe you could say something to get the to change they way larger individuals are treated. I hate to hear things like this.

I second Annie's post. You should contact the patient advocate at the hospital and let them know what you thought of this shameful situation!
I'm still bothered after watching "Inside Brookhaven" on TLC last night, and then to read this, well, I thank my lucky stars I had WLS. Otherwise, I'd be the circus freakshow at whom everyone gawks.

Hi Marge,
I can so relate to the lady you are talking about.I am sitting here with tears are streaming down my face. I was that lady not long ago not once but twice. I went to a beauty shop for a haircut, one I had never been to before. I waited my turn and when I got up to get in the haircut chair and my legj ust gave out and down I went. There was several more people in there trying to get me off the floor. I weigh 430 and the best way for me to get up is to have someone hold a chair or stool and I climb up myself. I can relate to the belly hanging down. I have the same problem,I am so embarassed by it that I try to hide under tops that are to big.Nothing hides it.
The second time this happened was ar Pulmonary rehab,in front of the whole class. I had been on the treadmill when I got off I fell face first ,bent my glasses skinned my face something terrible. Now getting to the point. I attended a WLS seminar in May. I spoke to the surgeon. I just about have all my test together. I have decided to have WLS. I just don't see any other way. My doctors have told me that it is necessary to save my life. I have just a couple of test and the blood work to go. I am so looking forward to having this done. Ido hope the Lady you spoke about is Ok. I can just imagine how she must have felt. I don't know why these hospital and clinics don't understand that smaller people will fit in a larger wheelchair but larger people won't fit in a small wheelchair.Go Figure.
I just had to let this out sorry for unloading. Take care Bluebutterfly. Ilove this site
This is inexcusable at a hospital. Their staff should be trained to be kind and gracious to all who are suffering. I know of an incident were a large woman fell on the floor at a store (she was sitting down and the chair gave way). She was large enough that she couldn't get up and the staff (a couple of women) couldn't get her up either. The store manager called the fire department, explained the situation, requested that they come without any sirens or such, and that they be considerate of the woman's feelings. The fire captain was very kind--it took seven firemen to get her up--but the whole time he was talking to her in a very respectful way trying to downplay the inevitable humiliation.
It take training but also a kind heart,
Sally
