Hello my fellow post-op sister. I am 10 years post-op and have also regained some weight...and have to agree with the other you lady the question should've been "who haven't regained...". It's natural I'm sure, but one thing we know is our tool will work for us if we put in the work. I have recently discovered detoxing and have been on a 10 day detox cleans (JJ Smith 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse) and I'm not finished my entire 10 days just yet (2 days shy), but I have dropped 11 pounds and quite a few inches. Buy the book (I purchased it on Amazon and downloaded it to my Kindle e-reader for $2.99). I must say...this is THE BEST thing I've done for myself in a while. I haven't incorporated working out into the plan but losing this amount of weight in 8 days without exercising and starving is right up my alley.
I wish you the best on your journey and remember...your tool will work...you just have to get it started again!
Hello and first let me congratulate you on continuing on this journey. I know a few people who started out with a Lap Band then went on to having RNY.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but drinking any form of alcohol is not good for you at this point. When I had surgery 10 years ago my surgeon forbid his patients to drin any alcohol beverages for 1 year because it could damage your kidneys. Please be careful...you don't want to end up with any issues as a result of drinking wine 3 months after having surgery. I wish you the best on your journey.
Well hello my fellow WLS family!!! I am one of the "oldies" that wanted to stop by and say hello to my WLS family where it all started 10 years ago for me (11/11/2004). To the newbies...congratulations on the beginning of your new journey...to those in the process of getting approved...hang it there it'll happen, don't get discouraged, and to the oldies...we've come a long way baby!!!!!
As a WLS vet (lol) I want to caution you...this isn't a miracle plan...it's a LIFESTYLE CHANGE! Your tool will work as long as you work it...trust me having lost, gained, lost, gained, and now losing again, this isn't an easy journey so don't let anyone tell you different by saying "you took the easy way out"...no the real work begins after the honeymoon phase.
Being 10 years out of course I've regained some pounds...nothing like I was pre-surgery, but any weight gain is always a challenge. I am currently back on the grind getting this weight off and I have discovered that drinking green smoothies is definitely helping me. I purchased a book by JJ Smith called the 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse and let's just say IT'S BECOME MY NEW BEST FRIEND! I love this plan...it's easy to follow and if you're OUT OF YOUR HONEYMOON PHASE you may want to get the book, read it and see if it's something that can work for you.
Therapist, therapist, therapist! Mine is invaluable. Therapy will help you figure out why you feel you need to drink and give you strategies for dealing with those issues in a healthy way. You might benefit from an anti-anxiety medication since it sounds like your reason is stress. Just don't give up! (And not keeping wine in the house may help too). Before surgery I was a wine every day person, but now I drink other beverages from my beautiful wine glasses or I chew gum, both of which have helped break the habit.
Just dropping a line to say I hope all is well with you, and that you indeed are a beautiful mommy!!!! Have a blessed day!
I can say for myself, obesity was part of my life, and lifestyle that caused by many things. The obesity is the symptom. If you never asked the results of your psychological testing check it out. I was surprised that I was diagnosed with ADD, and moderate depression. I don't take medication at this point, but am entirely open to that. It has helped me understand why, and how I respond to stressful stimuli. I will stay in contact with clinical professionals in the meantime. So, the tools we have WLS, but if I can say this on this forum....African American Women are taxed with a lot of responsibilities, that is multiplied if you are a wife, mother, and especially if you are a single parent. It gets overwhelming, but in our strong proud selves we get going anyway instead of being patient, and understanding that we need help. Achieving a balance. Some things have to be let go off. Priorities have to be checked!!! Sister, Mommy, Daughter, Wife......You have to come first! If your in a plane, and you don't put your mask on first you will not be conscious enough to help those around you! Put yourself first, decrease stress. Sometimes I take 15 minutes to just soak in the bathtub, and drown out all the noise when I lean my hair, and head in the water to just hear myself breathe!!!! It's beautiful!!! Okay, that's enough.....Thanks for sharing, and allowing me to share!
Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to share this with everyone. Obesity does not just have an effect on you physically, but it also effects your mental health. We laugh it off, and blame something else usually. However, there is sometimes something just below the surface. If you begin the journey to weight loss, and are unsuccessful on your own this can make things worse. I am saying all this to share that for me, after the surgery I am finding a new, and renewed sense of self post op. I haven't even come close to my goal weight yet, but I feel that I am achieving better sleep at night, and more mental clarity throughout the day! It is amazing to me. I am grateful I went with my gut feeling about this procedure. Just don't forget to address you, and your whole being as well.

I am 9 months out and have short, natural, color treated hair. I haven't experienced hair loss. My surgeon warned me that it could happen, so I won't be alarmed if it does. I don't think ethnicity makes a difference based on what I have read. Yes, it can occur at around the 3 month mark, but does improve with time.
Biotin is very good and much cheaper. It also has helped with my nails.
