I have an aunt who SWEARS by the JJ Smith GSC. I was wondering if I could use it later on down the line. Wasn't sure if I would be able to drink the right amounts. I'm still pre-op but I want to make sure I maximize all options available.
I believe he packed up and left. No mention to his patients, no release of medical records, NOTHING!

I love the preparation as well as eating it. All the recipes were learned in my late Mom's kitchen, and over the years, I've added my own touches to make them mine.
I have no family of my own, and most of my relatives are gone, so I'm kind of sad that the traditional recipes end with me.
I'll eat soul food, but I haven't had any since surgery. I had the vsg so I haven't really had any issues eating anything. I really only eat my moms soul food & she hardly cooks any of that anymore except on special occasions like Thanksgiving & Christmas, even so with me trying to get all my protein in first I really wouldn't have any room for her collard greens, but I sure as hell will bring some home though!

I too dealt with an increase desire for alcohol just a few months out from surgery. I thought it was strange but was really too embarrassed to talk about it for fear of being judged. I must say the desires have passed. I am 11 months out and I can barely drink a half of a glass of wine or any alcohol without it making me feel sick. I just don't even have the taste for it anymore. It's like my taste buds continue to change. I confided in my husband who has always been a great support and I continue to attend my bariatric support group which has been a great help.
You still have malabsorption working for you, so a lot of that wine that you're drinking is blowing right past any absorption. Nevertheless, it is adding extra carbs, which with a RNY, you don't need that right now. This your peak time to lose the weight. You've got an 18 to 24 month window, or "honeymoon" period. After that, keeping the weight off will put you right back into restrictive dieting that you had to do without surgery to lose weight. Unless you have a distal RNY or DS, unfortunately the weight will come back unless you continue/resume restrictive dieting after your weight loss window. Wine is full of carbs, and you don't need tthat now, or frurther down the road!
If you think you're starting the path to excessive drinking, then it is within your power to check it now, before it really does become a problem for you.
Since many of us on this forum grew up with what is known as "Soul Food" whether it be Mama's or Big Momma's - I'm curious as to how many continue to eat soul food post-op?
Are there any that your new digestive system just can't handle?
Hello and CONGRATULATIONS on joining us in this WLS family! As a newbie you definitely want to watch your intake so your honeymoon phase can run it's course which is usually anywhere between 12-18 months...so please limit any bad food choices now so you can maximize your tool!
I have never been a smoothie person, but when I had to pull out a size 14/16 pant from the closet hey I got some ruffage and fruit and started blending (haha) and have definitely liked the progress so far.
I wish you continue success our your journey...YOU CAN DO IT!
Well hi there!, so nice to hear from an oldie, I'm a newbie & I'm learning all the time, hoping to make my "honeymoon phase" last as long as possible. I also like smoothies but had to cut way back on them, was putting almost anything & everything in it so it wasn't looking like a smoothie anymore, but dang it sure tasted good! Good luck on getting those last few pounds off!

I haven't experienced hair loss, but I really don't do anything to my hair anyway, I just put it in 2 braids & wear a scarf, plus I wear wigs sometimes too. Hair loss is really hit or miss, hope everything turns out ok.
