The beat advice we can give you is to make sure you research ALL weight loss surgeries before choosing one. Read and learn all you can about each one, THEN, along with your surgeon, decide which is BEST for you. I will tell you, from personal experience, if you are considering the lap band, you will want to take the time to check out the lap bands/failed lap band forums on here before deciding on that surgery. I will not be negative, but you are more than welcome to read my story to get an idea of what many lap band patients go through and are faced with. Hoping you find a surgery that works for you. All the best.

Hey, I'm new as well. I am scheduled for my SIPS procedure on 1/23/2015. I am so excited, but I don't know many people who have had bariatric surgery, so here I am looking around.
Actually, my lowest weight was 142. I have picked up some weight and yes it is definitely baby steps for me. The lower my scales gets the less I lose. Sometimes I lose .2 but losing .2 a week is better than gaining .2. I went back up over the holidays and 155 is my weight for this week, this week I lost .6. It is coming off slowly but when I exercise for 2 hrs a day for an entire week I normally lose about a 2 - 3 lbs. but it is really hard for me to get that much exercise in every week. Good luck on weight loss, its hard work and slow but just keep trying.

Hey Lia,
Congrats on your success 11 years out! I love when Vets post updates. Can I ask, how long did take you to get from 342 to 155 and how long have you been maintaining that weight? I ask because my starting weight was 338, I'm at a year out and my weight has barely moved in the last 2 months (I'm at 198 and lost 3 lbs last month and 1.5 this month). Was it baby steps getting down to the 155 or did you get there all at once and then maintain? Anyways, I love the post and good luck getting down to your goal of 140, I'm sure you'll get there!
I had RNY surgery on 1/15/04, my pre-surgery weight was 342 and I am now at 155. I am still trying to get to my weigh****chers goal weight of 140 and my goal clothing size 6, I am currently wearing an 8. Food is not my friend. I do really well for awhile then something happens to set me off like a holiday, birthday, or my emotional eating still trying to figure that out. But, I am still not where I use to be, I can walk 7 miles, I can do high intensity zumba for an hour or two, I can lift weights, I can run, etc., I could not do any of that before surgery so I am still happy I had the surgery. The surgery gave me a intolerance for high fat and sugar so I can't do very much which is helping me to eat right. I am going to continue to try to reach my goals until I get there no matter how long it takes.
I wish all the newbies the best of luck reaching your goal weight and the vets of weight loss surgery the best of luck maintaining your weight. I hope that no one gives up, just keep trying even if you have to start over and over and over again just keep at it until you make it to your goal and then maintain it to end the vicious cycle of gaining and losing.
Belated Happy Surgiversary to you! The 17th of January was my birthday! I tried for my DS (duodenal switch) to be on that day as well, but it was February 25th, 2009. I'm coming up my 6th surgiversary.
I could put it away back in the day myself, but it seems I eat more now than I did when I was SMO.
As you probably already know, the DS is very malasorptive, and it stays that way for life.
I now use a salad plate as a dinner plate, and while I probably am not eating more in volume, I am positive I am taking in more in protein calories, and just calories, period. While I have to be aware of protein, I also need to eat more to maintain my weight, since I'm only absorbing about half of what I eat.
Many don't like the DS because of the strict attention that has to be paid to getting nutrients in, especially when it comes to the vitamin regimen.
I lost my first 200 pounds in the first year. 57 more came off gradually over the second year post-op, and a few more over the next several years. I dipped a little below my PCP's loss limit for me, but I worked to get my weight back up. I would rather have it this way than worry about dealing with regain.
The one thing the DS has freed me to do...eat like a normal person! Food without fear!
The 17th of Jan will be 4 years for me. Ive lost about 140lbs. I pretty much eat what I want, then again I can only eat so much. my biggest miss is I eat when I want and feel the need. Sadly theres so much that I use to love that I can't Stomach (No Pun) any longer. Back in the day, I would put plates away. Now is a different thing. Best of luck to you.

Are you on med's, could that be hindering your wt loss. I wish you well. I take meds for depression, anxiety panic attacks and gained a lot of wt, so sleeve coming. I pray my meds will work the same and that the wt will come off and stay off.
Hi,
I will start my preop diet Jan 29th. The time is just flying by.
When do you start yours. I don't have to be on clears until 3 days prior to surgery date, I'll start on protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and a salad for dinner for 11 days then 3 days of clear liquids, is that similar to what your doing?
