That's great to know. I'm 13 days post op and just took my twist out. I was considering doing it again but I won't now.
I just had surgery on Jan 23, 2015. I am wondering, as I look over myself in the mirror, does anyone use compression garments while losing weight to help combat loose skin? If so, what brands? Is is truly beneficial?
Do not braid your hair! My cousin had DS in July and got braids during the holidays and when she took them down patches of her hair came out! The hair is weak and sheads and the braids caused extra tension and left her practically bald! She went from middle of the back length thick natural hair to shoulder lenght thin visible scalp and bald spots! When it if you lose your hair it thins and I personally think braiding makes the process worse
I think for many of us eating is social. It's part of our heritage and sadly why so many of us are overweight-eating is a "big" (no pun intended) part of our gatherings! Yet, I have many relatives who have always ate "Soul Food" yet never became obese becaue they do so in moderation. I'm at 5 months on the VSG and I can eat about anything but of course it is limited. So even at gathering I do protein first, veggies and then what dessert I have room for. (Love sweet potato pie!) I cannot eat much as as I mentioned earlier it's all about being social which I have always attached to eating, now my mind have been reprogrammed. Yet, I still WANT to eat because that is always what I have done. So sad that sometimes I just miss the eating for the eating even when I am not hungry-that tells me a lot about myself and why this change was necessary. For the most part, I do stay away from Soul Food but I won't say I cannot or never will eat it. I will, but in moderation and only if I am actually hungry!
ok

Hi Ymillavsg, thanks for responding I see you are doing excellent down 26 pounds in a little over a month. I haven't been placed on BP meds but my doctor has been trying to for over a year. Earlier this month he told me that he was placing me on BP meds and I told him that I will be having WLS in a few weeks and he said fine, but he turned his nose up when I said I was doing it in MX.. But who cares what he thinks. When I spoke to the patient coordinator at Bariatrics Medical Center she said that I would have 5 incisions. My stomach is so sensitive I opted for the singles incision for quicker recover and less pain.. I have 18 more days before my big day and I too wish I would have made this decision years ago.. Let's keep in touch
Hi Memelee504
I had my VSG in TJ, Mex. with WLS4betterlife & Dr Ponce de Leon on 12/18/14. I had a wonderful experience. Trish was my patient coordinator, she was heaven sent. I have had no pain nor discomforts whatsoever. I am down 26lbs and growing strong each day. I was taken off all BP meds. on 12/31. Unfortunately, I didn't have a single incision nor was i aware of it. However I had four incision, which healed in a painless, timely manner. I wish I had made this decision years earlier. I'm praying you have a speedy recovery with great success.

It's similar to a duodenal switch, its Stomach Intestinal Pylorus-Sparing surgery or SIPS. There are a few people here who have had it done. Its a relatively new procedure.
