Topic: Support ?????

I am a 26 year old female and I just have a simple question... Has/Did anyone tried/try to talk you out of surgery ? I don't have a lot of friends or family so not a lot of people know but certain ones are not being supportive saying things like black people don't do that or I'm going to lose my hair and teeth... I need this surgery to help me be healthier but they don't see that... so I just want to know if you personally had any issues with support ? If so how did you fix it ?

Topic: RE: Compression garments

I use any type of compression garments, and you can find them all at your local Wal-Mart. These come highly recommended to help with elasticity. Factors to consider are Gravity (can't do much about that), age, and amount of weight loss, and the speed at which you lose the weight. weight training is also very important as well! I where fitted garments under my scrubs, anything from girdles, and sports bras with with a regular bra. Here's what I like about hurdles especially for the mid section it has the ability to shape and define that area, in addition to acting as an appetite suppressant. if you where it during meals you will be able to train yourself to eat smaller meals more frequently. I hope that helps

Good morning,

I pray all is well with you today! Alot has changed in my life since I had the sleeve! I am almost 3 months out, and I have lost 40lbs. As a result, I have more confidence, more energy, and my symptoms from the depression are a lot less impacting in my life. I am more positive, and able to complete tasks that I start. I have been able to do all this without medication at this point. However, I have a family doctor that I trust. So, what I decided to do was be open to follow his recommendations. prior to surgery I would find myself cycling through my depression. Meaning it would come on, and I would be stuck in it for a while then it would go away, and then later come back over a period of months. I have been waiting for it to cycle around, but it hasn't and for that I feel blessed! I hope this helps.God bless you

Topic: RE: Soul Food???

If you are having the Duodenal Switch, then you will not have to give up fried chicken or whiting. In fact, you will likely need the fat from frying, since DSers malabsorb 80% of the fat we consume. That said, simple carbs (white flour, white pasta and items made from them), and simple sugars (candy, table sugar, syrups, etc.) will likely give you gas from Hades, and "the runs".

I will be six years out on the 25th, and along with curing my severe morbid obesity (SMO), It freed me to eat like a normal person.

The primary things you will have to deal with are getting your protein in every single day, and being absolutely anal about stickintg to your vitamin regiomen.  I'm not advertising, but Vitalady has an excellent vitamin package for DSers and ERNY's  (Extended RNY - they get a "food pouch for a stomach, and a further bypass that is similar to the DS configuration.)

My DS has freed me from the fear of food, and gaining weight with it,  and with just a few exceptions, I can ( and do!) eat anything I want. While you;re losing, you may want to limit your carbs to maximize your weight loss, but once you reach goal....anything goes!

Good Luck!

HW 405/SW 397/CW 138/GW 160  Do the research!  Check the stats!
The DS is *THE* solution to Severe Morbid Obesity!

Way to go!  It takes a while for the brain to catch up! I would walk into the store and head directly to Womens World, and then I would remember, and make a mad dash to the Misses section!  Feels good to purchase clothes  in misses size

Thank you for posting this. I am scheduled for surgery on Feb 18 2015 and am so worried i will mess up. I am a great cook but my weakness is fried chicken and whiting. I have been thinking to beat the possible cravings I should fry a chicken breast to get the most out of my protein but if cravings are not a huge battle then I should be fine.

Jus1nita, i have to agree with you on the Lane Bryant thing. However, i am seriously interested in getting the sleeve done, but can really decide on a Dr. If you don't mind me asking, who did you go with to do your surgery? How well did you like him and his crew? The hospital? Did you go alone? All info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
