First time, I told people.... was pressured, and I gain instead of loosing... an took a long vacation. My health got worse, so I tired again, keeping things on the low. With much focus, I was successful and still maintaining success. It can make even close family members nervous to see you improving your health and not being the large person that made them comfortable and the focus off them for what ever reason. You cannot fix them. You can only fix you. You deserve to be healthy and you are worth it. WLS is only a tool, but it will be there for you everyday for the rest of your life post-op. It will be up to you to chose how you maintain it in the long run. People get mixed up with myths, in beliefs and forget or do not really know the facts. Just follow the facts. You could loose some hair as is natural; it will grow back. You will only loose your teeth if you do not brush them... This web site is good for the solitary person for support. Visit different site for more facts and data to add to your journal. Good luck on your journey.
Hi... I wanted to let you ... First I'm not judging but I was dealing with alcoholism as well... I became very reckless and I had an everyday after work party at home or hanging out. It became an issue to where my body was depleted of the vitamins and minerals my body needed. I started having seizures. On 12-6-2010 I finally surrendered and God took the taste and desire from me. By God's grace I will be 5 years sober this year. I got my gastric bypass back in 2006 and I would do it again minus the alcohol. Just remember when you have an issue with a substance you have to give it up totally. It's a leaky faucet once it's fixed don't turn it on... best wishes to you. God bless...

Hi there,
My suggestion would be to call your insurance company directly and ask them if seeing your doctor is an alternative to doing a hospital program. That would be the place to start. I wish you luck, sounds like you are so ready to take this big step!
Hello everyone my name is Kiasha I am 25, happily married 3 years next month, and planning to have an RNY done as soon as possible. Its a decision I have thought long and hard about for 3 years. I tried losing weight on my own and it just isn't working. I have PCOS, Papilledema, and Pseudotumor cerebri all which I have been repeatedly told would get better with weight loss. I am ready to make a permanent change in my life. I am hoping the surgery will make it possible for me to have a baby and most of all just be healthy.
I do have a question my insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program. The hospital I want to have surgery at has one but its expensive. Could I just see my doctor once a month to meet this requirement? What did you do for those who had to meet this requirement as well?
I look forward to getting to know everyone and providing/receiving as much support as possible.
Hurry, don't miss out on OH's event filled fun, education and a chance to meet fellow members of your WLS community.

I'm glad to see this post. I too have gained about 40lbs since my post-rny lowest. Today is my 7 year surgiversary and I too am commiting to losing the 40lbs. It's reassuring to know I'm not alone in the challenge, but I certainly can relate to the embarrassment as I feel it every time I look at a recent picture. In addition to refocusing on high protein and no slider foods, can anyone share a calorie range/goal that they try to follow?
In support to us all,
MB
hi is there any one on here who is having or already had WLS at Joseph brant hospital in Hamilton Ontario
Yes a doctor I had tried to talk me out of the surgery and that was 10 years ago (April 2004). I went ahead and had the surgery and am glad I did.
