We are literally in the same boat! I felt like I was reading my own thoughts that I have daily! I think what matters at this point is that you are even considering surgery and you know something has to change because that's exactly how I feel. Although, it can be overwhelming with where to start and all the questions and doubts that come with making the choice to have the surgery! Either way that first step is making the choice and getting started. Well, anyway I just wanted to reach out to tell you that your not alone in how you feel and I wish you luck in what ever you do! Stay strong!
Hello I am a newbie to WLS community. I'm thinking about getting a procedure done I am 5"9 ,291 I am at my wits ends, with the state of my body... I really don't have any medical problems other then I have not had a menstrual cycle in over five years without medication. No matter what I do I don't seem to be able to lose more than 5 pounds. I have had tests ran, and my thyroid functions are right all of my numbers as far as bloodwork I am scared to death of dying due to my weight and dependents on food (Am a stress/ emotional Eater). Am really just looking for something or someone to point me in the right direction.... Am desperately looking for help I feel myself sinking into a worst depression every day due to my weight and self-esteem problems. I do see a therapist and psychiatrist.... I have tried weight loss programs and diets without any real change.
I just logged on to this site for the first time in over a year. I have the same issue. Would love to see what others have done...sigh.

You are so correct! We have a toll and can work the tool but it still requires work. I had my surgery in December 2008.
Your welcome. My hair has been thinning out. When I heard about the hairloss I should expect after surgery I got really concerned. Just 2 days after my surgery my doctor sat down with us (the group of patients and I) and explaned that we need to take 10,000 grams of biotin daily or will will likely experience hair loss. I have been doing that religiously. I haven't experienced any hair loss!!! In fact, I would even dare to say that I have more hair than when I started. When I took the pill form of biotin I would get a few acne bumps around my back and hair line, but now (and I'm not sure if it's because I'm on a very low calories diet), but now I don't get any acne. I am currently taking the gummy form. I bought it from Walmart online.
My hair started to thin some but immediately I started taking biotin supplements and used coconut oil in my hair. I also avoided hairstyles that pulled my hair tight. Worked like a charm for me.
Thank you for the response. I have seen people for Biotin and others say it doesn't do anything. My hair is pretty thick and I have never worn wigs, weaves, ponytails or anything, so I think my biggest concern is what will happen post op.

I would say try these three things:
- Moisturize
- Protective stylin
- 5.000-10,000mg Biotin
I have always had very fine hair, after I started wearing half wigs my hairline was pushed back a bit, and I had a little bit of crown balding. Be careful about pulling your hair too tight, and try to get in your vitamin, sleep, protein, and water.
I never had any hair loss. Just make sure you take in all the required protein you are suppose to and you will be fine
