Which Surgery Do you Think?
RNY all the way!
I'm 7 yrs post-op from RNY and I'm soooo thankful that I chose that route. I too had diabetes (type 2), and high blood pressure. The day of my RNY surgery, I was told to stop taking my meds because I wouldn't need them anymore. My diabetes is gone, and so is my high blood pressure. NO MORE MEDS!!!
Do what is best for you though. You can get all of our opinions, but what it comes down to is, what is best for YOU. We are all different, different situations, different body types, different lifestyles, and different needs. Just do what is best for you.
I wish you luck on your weight loss quest.

Sleeve was my choice. I'm 5'3 and weighed 234. I was sleeved 7/18/15. I'm now 204 and I hope to lose about 64 more pounds. I love my sleeve. I had High Blood Pressure, Sleep Apnea (CPAP Machine) and was borderline diabetic. I no longer BP meds and I dont sleep with my CPAP machine. It's the best decision I made! Good luck with your decision!!
Hi simone! Our stats are similar! I'm 5'3, about 225lbs, I take bp meds, and am borderline diabetic! I had the lapband done in 2005 and was very successful for a while. About 2.5- 3 years into it, weightloss stopped and it took over 3 years of hardcore research onthe internet for me to reach the manufacturers of my band and to be told about a recall due to slow leak development. Fastforward to today, I need to have my lapband removed because it has broken inside of me in2 places. I have been hesitantly contemplating a revision to the sleeve but very worried about developing complications similar to what I experienced with the band, not to mention, I would be soooo depressed if I were to have revision surgery only to be unsuccessful. Glad to hear your revision has proven successful. Gives me hope :)
I chose RNY because of the malabsorption and I had a lot to lose. If I had diabetes I would chose RNY. Many people who are on insulin walk out of the hospital on no medication. Their last dose is pre-surgery. With RNY it is not just the weight loss that turns the diabetes around, something in the surgery itself changes the metabolism...which I don't even think the doctors/research totally understands. I have heard it said many times on these boards it is very rare for anyone to be worried about being - too thin- by year 3. I also think your body has to adjust to the weight loss, and even if your weight stays the same, you probably look better further out.
