I had my RYN last July 2012. I have been struggling to eat within the guidelines of the program since January 13. I have been eating all kinds of foods that interfere with keeping the weight that I have lost off. I have not dumped yet, but I often have a bubbly stomach after eating foods such as candy, chips, popcorn, friend chicken, you name it. I need motivation and words of encouragement to help me get back on track. I do not want this surgery and all my hard work going to waist. I also do not want to gain my over 100 pounds back.

Hi LoveAngel........(This is a long reply).......First congrats on your progress thus far.  Often times we are our own worst enemy!  We can sabotage ourselves better than any enemy could ever try to do.  The question is why engage in this destructive activity?  To answer that critical question involves the portion of wls that is the most neglected and discussed in the process, and that's the mental part.  We all had to jump through the hoops to get approved for the wls, and there is that evaluation that attempts to understand what type of eating behavior or perhaps a tragic event that occurred to assist in your weight gain.  But that's the extent of dealing with the mental game involved in our eating habits.  For many of us continuous counseling and therapy is required to get to root of this behavior to help us become successful and maintain a healthy weight.

In the meantime..........this journey is yours to win!  And you can do this!  It will require you to DECIDE to be disciplined.  We all figure out at some point a few months after our procedure that hey....."I can still eat" the same foods as before!  But we also know that doing the same thing that we did before, eventually will yield you the same results as before!.......Real talk!

So CHOOSE to drink your protein daily; to eat lean meats first then veggies, eat small portions slowly from a saucer, refrain from second helpings, refrain from indulging in snack foods.  You know the drill to get you back on track.  Of course you may not like it.  You want to have all those tasty chips, candy and fried foods!  It is a conscious choice to govern your eating to get your desired results.  No amount of motivation from any outside support can assist you with being successful at weight loss if and until you decide that you want it to work and take the steps to make it happen.

You are still in the honeymoon phase where you can easily get back on track by beginning at the begin!  This is so doable!  The following is something I posted a few weeks ago with a similar topic:

I've always been a strong believer in drinking my protein each day.  I still get it in religiously!  I increased my daily intake to drinking two 30 g shakes a day, and that really cut into my appetite.  I shoot for 100 grams a day.  I went back to eating from a saucer too and not going back for seconds.  I also made an effort to not eat anything after 7:00 pm, go to bed earlier so I wasn't awake to think of food.  I think the main thing that keeps me at goal is to be consistent and persistent with my schedule.  These are a few things that I live by and don't waiver much on:

Eat breakfast EVERYDAY!....(This was a hard one for me to do, but it changed my metabolism and energy levels)

5:30 am  (I eat within the first 30 minutes from the time I wake up - Usually straight protein...i.e....boil egg white, deli turkey or chicken shavings, peanut butter or baked fish)

6:30 - 8:30 Get in my water, vits, meds......(My least favorite...:-)

8:30 am - Drink 30 g protein shake...(Costco Premier........18 for about $28.00........great price..........good taste)

10:30 am - Snack...(Almonds, protein bar, ...)

12:30 - Lunch.....I try to eat as big a lunch as I can earlier in the day (Salad with meat, meaty pasta dish and veggies, baked salmon and veggies......Usually whatever leftovers from dinner...:-)

2:30 - Drink 30 g protein shake

4:30 - Healthy Snack (if I'm hungry)

6:30 - Dinner - (Salad with meat, meaty pasta dish and veggies, baked salmon and veggies......Dessert sometimes........Maybe a glass of red wine...:-)

Now my downside...........Is getting in water!  I've always struggled with that.  I have a weakness for sweets.......and sometimes, not always........I go a little crazy at night snacking....

Of course exercise is the other component that's a must.  My choice is always walking.  I've been sidelined with injuries for the past year and unable to do so.  So I have to find another outlet and stop making excuses.

Bottom line is to get your mindset on doing something to bring about a positive change you desire.  We know how this works, but WE have to work IT!  Take control of your intake, get your body in motion (especially now that it's getting warmer), and journal your food and activities.  You'd be surprised to learn a lot of details about your habits and how you can correct the ones that sabotage your progress!

I hope this helps somehow!

Keep it moving!!

I really appreciate your response. You do not know me but the length of your response shows you really care. It was motivating. I am a therapist so I know I need to uncover the root cause to this; something I would tell my patients to do. I have made a section in my journal to explore this. Thank you so much for you insight.

You are so welcome, and yes I do care about the outcomes of us who choose wls as an option for weight control.  I've only been a part of all of this life of wls a little over four years, and it is daunting the failures from these procedures.  I try to offer a few things; to all who inquire, about practices, techniques and tips that have helped me get to goal and maintain day to day.

I will send a friend request to you, and thanks.

This is awesome. I am new and looking forward to having my surgery. It gives me a little hope that there are people out there who are willing to help.

Good luck
