My First Christmas post surgery-Time of Reflection

It has been 7 months since my surgery.  I spent Christmas in Florida with some family.  I have two cousins who had the surgery.  One had the gastric bypass and the other the lap-band.    I find it very interesting that they are taking credit for my decision to have the surgery.  I never had any discussions with either of them regarding having the surgery.  I didn't respond to their comments regarding it.  Why argue with them?  I did it when I was ready and for myself not them.

I did find it hard to get through the Christmas parties then Thanksgiving dinner.  So I am back on protein shakes and lighter foods.

One other thing I realized this holiday that people I considered friends prior to surgery have an issue with my weight loss.  Apparently same thing with people who where not my friends are now speaking to me because of it.

I found that the holidays have been a time of reflection for me.  A time to realize who are truly your friends through thick and thin (literally) and who aren't.  A time to reflect on who I am becoming.  The greatest gift I gave myself this year was the surgery.  The greatest gift someone gave me for Christmas was a journal (Thanks Sis!).

I hope everyone had a good Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Kwanza and Happy Hanukah!

I agree it does hurt.  Don't let them gain power over you.  What is just as sad is that a supervisor at my job is telling people that I do nothing but show off how much weight I lost.  Guess what, you and I know that it wasn't an easy journey.  So we are getting a lease on life.

You had a slight setback, but you are taking control back.  And we are learning who are real friends are.   So get rid of those friends and find some new ones who accept you as you are.  I am doing the same.

Best of luck on your journey.

People will eventually show you who they really are.  However, what matters is who you are.  Smart move cutting back after the holidays.  I like to cut back before and after events so weight gain is not an issue.  Have an awesome holiday season.  I'm still celebrating the Twelve Days of Christmas!
