Plastic Surgery and Age

Hi There:

I have a question that I would like some feed back on relative to Plastic Surgery. How do you feel about Plastic Surgery for people over 50 y.o.? I ask this because I have lost a lot of weight (over 150 lbs.) via diet and exercise over the last 2 years. I am a bit over 50 y.o. and I know that I will have some type of Facial Plastics...I think anyone should think about that no matter how old. But what about some Body Contouring work (Arms, Stomach, Thighs, maybe breasts.) Is it worth going through the surgery and the healing process?

Something about Me: I am an Energetic, Passionate woman with a LOT of Living left to Do! I am a lawyer and I have been often told that I am very good looking.

For those of you that have had some Body work...Is it worth it, surgery and recouperation?

Hey ValueMe...........Congrats on your successful weight loss journey thus far.  You've done a great job on your own.

I'm nearly three years post-op.  I've successfully reached my wl goals and lost 130 lbs.  I was 51 when I had RNY, and I just turned 54 last Thursday.  At present, I'm not planning any plastics, but I may one day have a breast lift to improve the look of the girlz.  Maybe even a TT.  But my age is no consideration.  I feel it's worth it if it will make me look and feel better.  That's all that really matters is what it will add to your quality of life no matter your age.

I wish you continued success on your journey!  Keep it moving!

Healing is a matter of overall health.  I don't think age is a factor for plastics where healthy people are concerned.  We carve our bodies up for a myriad of reasons today some reasonable and some down right sick with little agreement on which is which.

What matters is you want to do this for you and your expectations are realistic.  If you are healthy enough to physically handle it; able to pay for it; do your homework so you know what you are getting into; and, don't expect the miricle of youth to be revisited upon you I say enjoy!

Hey VM,  I had blephopasty last summer to remove the bags from under my eyes.  I had everyone telling me how great I looked but when I looked in the mirror all I saw was bags so I got it done and I am so happy I did, you literally cannot tell I had surgery and I had the type where they cut off the extra skin.

I said all that to say I have two years till 50 and I too felt maybe it was too late but then I thought how young I am and look and how I wanted my face to reflect that completely, and I have no regrets at all.

Do what makes you happt, weight the goods and bads and don't let fear stop you.

Wish you luck with your decision.

I am 48 have lost 200 lbs with WLS and if I could afford PS I would have had it done long time ago. I have so much lose skin on my thighs, stomach, arms, and whatuse to be considered breast. . Im not trying to look like Im 16. But I do want to like what I see after all the hard work I put in. So to answer your question....to me yes it is worth it!

Congrats on your weight loss

I'm right with you on this...I'm actually jumping through the hoops right now for thighplasty coverage, after losing nearly 240 pounds (check ticker on signature).

It is not easy to get plastics approved through insurance, but for me, because of the skin issues that are causing frequent infections, it is  a little easier.  I would say that for anyone post-bariatrics who has excess skin issues, the time, trouble and healing process are definitely worth it.

That said, facial plastics, unless there's some congenital deformity, are nearly impossible to get covered. I'm assuming that this is going to be a self-pay for you, and to that I say..YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!
