I am hoping to have my surgery sometime in June.  I am trying to think of things I can tell my job.  I really don't want to tell them what kind of surgery I am having. However, because of the amount of time I may be off, I probably will have to tell them I am having surgery.  And of course the questions will start.  Are you ok?  What's wrong?  and blah blah blah.....
I'd love to hear what some of you all told your bosses and coworkers.  I really hate to have to lie when it comes to my health...
Help me out!!

If you don't want to tell them you're having WLS you can always say you're having your gallbladder removed which is what I've heard a lot of people say.  Just saying "I'm having surgery." may cause people to ask questions which will probably become very annoying, but again it is your business and you can always tell them "I'd rather not get into it." and leave it at that.

Thanks Haute Diva!!  I love that. "I'd rather not get into it."  Cause I would hate to say gallbladder and then later have gallbladder problems.  Thanks.

I told some close friends as for as administration well they didn't have to know what procedure I was having because of hepa law....I been out of work since April 23rd and just saw a co worker at the store. He asked where I been and that everybody misses me. I told him I had minor surgery and would return soon. He asked whats wrong and I said it was nothing just minor surgery and keep it moving. lol

I did not have this issue.  However, as a department head I have always told my staff there is no need to divulge any level of detail unless they choose to share this info with me.

You need a
medical procedure and do not care to discuss it is enough.  When the wl starts most folks will guess anyway.  But, who cares?  Its all about YOU and what YOU are comfortable with.

Basically, it's none of their business what kind of surgery you're having.

In short, tell them you need to take time off for medical leave and you expect to be back in ___ weeks.

It's not lying to not tell someone something that's none of their damn business to begin with.

I simply told my boss, I was having surgery of a personal nature and left it at that. That way the door was closed to asking me any questions.
