Not me silly....My sister friend just been banded... Some would say yay but last night she wasn't feeling to well and went to the E.R. where she found out she was pregnant

I asked her did they give her a pregnancy test before surgery she said no.I know my insurance required me to have birthcontrol and they tested me before I had surgery. That means that it could have been a possibility that she with child at the time of surgery.  Now she scared and they told her she high risk since she was suppose to wait 2 years out.

Do anyone have any advice for me to give to her. She's scared and I need some words of comfort for her.

I just read on the band forum that there's been countless of pregnancies while being banded and even in the early stages. the pro's about being banded is that they have no absorption. She can also be partial or fully unfilled.

I would love to hear more advice to give her please.

This is not as uncommon as one may think.  It happens with all surgery types.  My daughter had a pregnancy test the morning of he surgery but mine was a a week prior.  It boils down to **** happens.  Not the best move, but pregnancy happens and she can get through this just fine.

Pregnancy within two years of wls is often automatically labled high risk.  With the band malabsorpion is not an issue.  She will likely remain unfilled.  Since she is obese, she can avoid nutritional deficiency even with the band in place.   Her tool will still be there for her after she deivers.  Her attitude will be the most important factor in getting adequate nutrition to the fetus.

She must be diligently focused on nutrition and not weight plus manageing any co mobidities.   It is important she track her food to ensure adequate nutrition and resist the urge to avoid weight gain.

Without wls I gained a total of eight pounds total when pregnant; all of it in the last week or so.  This was not deliberate, it is just the way I carried.  I delivered a healthy baby because I was nutritionally sound.  She can too.

Nutrition and good sound prenatal health are what matters now.  She must focus on what is important.  Eating well; not eating excessively; and not dieting.  She can do fine.  Weight loss is waiting for her in the future.
