Currently I lose pretty slow,  I see the difference in my clothes so I must be losing inches cause I don't see it on the scale as weight loss..Do you think I'll be a slow loser.

If you don't mind answering a few questions for me plz.

1. What type of loser are you?

2. How did you loss weight before surgery.

3. What have you learned from your own journey and how did you handle it.

I'm going to check back later..Got to hit up the park for a 3 mile walk.

1. What type of loser are you?
I'm a mixed bag type of loser.
Just after surgery, I lost weight pretty fast (20lbs in the first month, then an average of 10lbs every month after).
Now that I'm trying to lose some weight that I regained, I've had a slow start, but I seem to have found my 'sweet spot' as far as calorie distribution and carbs.

2. How did you loss weight before surgery.
Prior to surgery, I lost weight at a fairly moderate pace (when I lost weight at all).  I was able to stick to a diet and lose, but of course would gain the weight back plus extra on top of that.

3. What have you learned from your own journey and how did you handle it.

I've learned that the surgery is not a cure all, its a TOOL.
Its not going to fix your mental problems.  I had huge body image issues after being heavy for so long (and my 'darling' ex only made things worse).  It took years after I was a size 4 to even recognize that I even WAS a size four.  I never believed the tags and I always thought 'Oh there's no way this will fit'.  (That's just a minor example).

My most recent lesson (after gaining 35lbs more than seven years after my surgery) is that you cant slack off or the weight will creep back up.  Stay on track with exercise and dont let a 5lb gain turn into a 50lb gain.  Take care of the problems when they're still small.
Getting back on track 10yrs later after a REGAIN of approx 35lbs
Surgery weight:  277lbs             Goal/maintenance weight: 135lbs

Mixed bag loser thats the OH first lol, 35 isn't that bad at all, I know its not to your liking but I guess it could be awhole lot worse.

I know its all mental.. my friend who also had rny and she stays in jeans matter of fact she works at the gap:)  and I think she has a beautiful shape but I guess if she don't feel it than its no point. I hope I don't start looking differently after I lose weight.

From your posts I think you are an average looser not a slow looser.  Reading these boards often fosters unrealistic expectations both pre and post op.  Many non ops will loose around 1-2 lbs a week on average.  There will be weeks when you loose nothing and on occaision a bonus of a little more.

1. What type of loser are you?
Call me a gainer, loser, regainer, reloser.  Post op I averaged 1.3 lbs a week whi*****luded factoring in gains as high as 14 lbs.  It took me 135 days to loose that first 50 lbs.  I am the mascot for slow loser.

2. How did you loss weight before surgery.
I could no longer loose anything at all.  It took five years of low carb to loose 50 lbs.  After that I would regain 5-10 lbs and re loose it, but never get any further in spite of continued dieting.

3. What have you learned from your own journey and how did you handle it.
I've been vindicated, but I remain frustrated.  However, my insides are carved up and rearranged so there is no point in not continuing to work at it.

When you are 100 lbs over weight no one believes there may be metabolic issues contributing to your obesity.  When you gain weight weeks after rny and keep struggling with "impossible" ups and downs as a newbie, you'd better have a doc that understands metabolism rather than one thaat blames you.  I was lucky that I have a good doc who also has rny.

Hi MSW...You raised a important question "metabolic issues" thats something I will address to my Dr. Monday, he's is very understanding but that subject never came up before.

Do you think that maybe the weight you sit at the most might be your normal body weight aka sweet spot. I probably need to make myself clear. You know how people will lose well over a hundred pounds be down to 125 then about a year after that they gaining 20 pounds do you think that the 125 wasn't really what they're suppose to weigh.

Hope that made sense. Its hard to come across writing I'm a verbal chick lol

The question makes sense.  You hear this theory all the time.  It is called bounce back weight.

Personally I think it can be bull**** for many.  I'm not saying everyone; however, we are often already experts at making excuses dor being fat.

Where my low weight is does not give me permission to add ten as a sweet spot.  Why can't my low be ten less?  Then the "sweet spot" changes.  Worse, are those who set their goals in the mid overweight area.  In comes the "sweet spot" and you are borderline obese.  That can be positive or negative depending on where you began.  Ending obese or borderline obese is diferent for someone with 300 lb excess weight vs someone with 100 lbs excess weight.

That sweet spot just does not hold for me.  I believe we should shoot for a cushion of five to ten below our desired weight.  This way our normal fluctuations will keep us in the right range as we loose any  temporary gain from holidays, vacations, etc.

Metabolic issues that are undiagnosed are not typical.  If you have them you likely already have a history to back it up even if it is undiagnosed.  Tests like the tsh (so called gold standard for thyroid issues) do not always show results that reflect the extent of hyper or hypo thyroid.  Then there are a host of others conditions way too long tp list.

I would not worry about metabolism unless there are issues with weight gain or no weight loss post op.  You would have to be tracking everythng you eat and your dedicated exercise as proof of having maintained an appropriate calorie deficit.  If weight loss does not match with the data and you are not starving yourself, then I would think metabolism.  Your tracking would be the documentayion you take to your doctor.

Focus on the positive over potential problems that are unlikely to be real.  People like me are not typical.
Too often we thing in terms of months to goal.  I tell my story so that the folks who follow the rules yet get no "honey moon" period ater wls or still experience weight gain know that they can loose the weight.  It may take twice as long, but it will happen if they stick with it year after year.

 1 - a up and down loser

2 - water fit, walking, no sugar, no pop, lots of water

3 - That  this is a sickness, I have to keep going when I don't want to. i have to roll with the punches, because i get so emotional about my size. Now I try to talk about it and not be afraid. Now I'm trying to understand why I'm slow to lose, like medications, metabolism ,calories in and calorie out. also other ways too.
