Hi BAF fam. I don't come on here and post often. But I need advice I have found out I have gallstones I see my surgeon on Tuesday afternoon. But speaking with my nurse she has basically said I have to get my gall bladder removed. Anyone had this done? On top of this I have about 40 more lbs to lose to reach my goal weight...how does this play havoc on my weight loss journey. Any advice at all will be very much appreciated. I want to lose the 40 lbs by my one year surgiversary which is June 20th.

Not to worry.  You will loose just fine with no gallbladder.  That forty is coming down, period.  We can't always choose the date but it will happen.

Post this to the rny board as well.  I've seen a lot of gallbladder related discussions there over the years.  With the greater level of activity, you will likely get several different perspectives.

With DS often the gall bladder is removed during the WLS.  So I dont think removing your gall bladder after RNY will negatively impact your weight loss journey.  Best wishes.

Good point.  This is true of rny as well as some other procedures if there is reason to anticipate gallbladder issues later.  I agree there should be no negative impact on wl.

Hello!

I can't tell you about having your gallbladder removed after WLS but I had mine taken out in 2000. I was 21 years old. My surgery was outpatient/day surgery and done laproscopically. I remember being a little tender for a couple of days and it was all good. WLS is much more intense.

I will say get ready for those fun gas episodes again for a while and keep your diet tight. Fat (greasy stuff) and sugar can send you running for the nearest bathroom.

All in all, it was not bad and I recovered fully and quickly. Do you have gallbladder attacks? If so, that is something you will NEVER miss.

You will be fine. I will keep you in my thoughts and please do come back and update us!
Take care and best of luck!
