Just a Question? Why is everyone's Profile private?

my profile was not always private, but the boards got a little scary for a while so i just locked everything down, i took for granted that this board was private but google and other sites can crawl through and pick up info from posts! i try to share as much as i can so i that be of help or inspire someone and i do get and send out friend requests, sometimes i post otherwise i just lurk!!
