Well I thought I would try posting on here , and I know that nobody will probably read it, because people are rarely ever on this forum, but Hayyyy a sistah is always willing to give something a try, so here is my situation: Black sistahs, our hair, and exercise, whoooo what a combo, and it does not go together. I religously get my hair done every 2 weeks, and now since I am 3 weeks post op, My exercise program is at a all time high. I currently wear my hair in a medium length bob, and the back is tappered, The only way I know how to keep my hair looking fly after exercising and sweating is to keep it wrapped up until it completely drys. So my question is to all of my sistahs how do you keep your hair looking good while you sweat and work out?

Donna I read your post and here is my response.  I have really long hair and I bun it up, get my workout done, and then co-wa**** every 2 days.   Fortunately I have wash and wear hair and don't have to do anything to it but put moisturizer on it, but on times when I flat iron it I don't know what the hell to do cause it gets soppy wet.

Your hair is gorgeous! I love it, and yea if I was you I would just keep it up while I am working out and have it flat ironed when I go to a very special event! That hair is pretty girl! Thanks for your response!

We may not have near the activity we used to have but we avoid leaving anyone hanging. It may take a minute if no regulars are on line for a few days but we try and show all some luv.

I've been exercising since before high school and hair has never been a problem. My hair is natural & my sisters is relaxed quarterly. We handle our shoulder length hair the same way.

wrap then workout - I have to blow dry mine before unwrapping it because the scalp is where I sweat the most. Sis can unwrap by the time she changes her clothes and her hair is bounce'n & behave'n.

ponytail set - Hands down both our favorite. Section hair according to how you will style it later. Hairs too short to section in ponytails should be smoothed and wrapped. Use the rollers of choice for your ends. This keeps our roots smooth. Once your hair dries you can smooth the marks from the hair ties as you style.

condition wash and go - When my hair is damp I combine a creamy deep conditioner with an alcohol free styling gel and work through. While damp I style and wrap, or I style and go. I've had cuts similar to your description and it works natural, relaxed, or texturized.

Hope this helps. Hair keeps a lot of women from exercise but it can be managed.

Thanks, and I think that wrapping is the best thing for me to do!

I tend to get my Zumba on at night before showering and going to bed.  I sweat a lot in my head so I excercise without wrapping my hair.  I take my shower once I have cooled down and then I wrap my hair for the night.  It's been working so far.  My hair is shorter than yours and tapered in the back, but I'm in the process of letting it grow out a little longer.

I have locs which are as long as the photo posted so I cant wash my hair after working out because it takes hours and hours  to dry. I dont sweat too much in my head but if I do and I dont have hours to devote to drying I just freshen up my scalp with Sea Breaze original formula.  My daughter has natural hair and she just lets it get sweaty and then co-washes, moisturizes and style.

i am the weava diva! i just get it washed more ofthen, i put on a head band to soak up the sweat and put it in a ponytail. wrapping a weave is heavy for me during excerise and i feel i sweat more. my hair stylist says to wrap it before a work out but i gets wet and then i have to go back to see her anyway! my own hair is long and thin and only peeks out in the summer time (ponytail or braids)

This was all some good info about hair care after the workout, my head sweats more than any other part of my body. I really hate to limit my workout just because I look like a cat licked my hair after I am done, so I just put a hat on and go hard at the gym and when I get home shower with conditioner on my hair and then wrap it to dry tied up. My hair is about the length of my middle finger so not much to deal with but still, would love to be able to workout early after work even if I have a function to go to late in the evening but that is not an option.  I really do believe that more women of color would workout more often if "what to do with our hair" was not an issue.
I have been struggling with the idea of going natural it would be so much easier for me and my exercise plan, but I have lost weight and my face looks a little hummm welllll harder, older, so I am not really sure that the shaved look will fit me, scared to try out.  I know, it is only hair but I have to look at this face everyday until it grows back sooo, there it is...Tiki,
