SO WHAT DID I EAT TODAY?
I admit it. I am a calorie controlled binge eater. Most often it is also low carb. No, I'm not proud of myself. It just is what it is. As I struggle to break the eating disorder cycle I need to know how much damage I'm doing. Even if its low cal.
When there is no doubt about what you ate and what you burned in exercise there is no lying to yourself. When I say exercise I mean dedicated workout time.
We can very easily attribute more or less value to every day tasks. Not so easy when we look at the time we spend in a dedicated work out. You either ran or you walked. You used light weight or heavy weight. You did 15 min or an hour on that cardio machine. Far less play room than assigning an activity level to chores or work related tasks.
Same goes for food. When you track you must weigh and measure. The tracker tells you how much a medium pork chop should weigh. The tracker tells you the calories if you eat the fat or leave it on the plate. There is no fudging the numbers if you do it right.
For me the tracker of choice is fatsecret.com. I find it more accurate than most other sites with fewer duplicates. Also, users are good enough to make notes for items like Atkins bars so you know how they arrived at the correct net carb number.
A few others you may like:
tracker here on OH
calorieking.com
nuritiondata.com
mydailyplate.com
myfitnesspal.com
Do a simple search and you will find dozens upon dozens of sites out there. Most are free but like this site there are plently of banner ads. If the banner ads annoy you use firefox and download the adblock plus add on (download.cnet.com).
Good information is critical if you are to be succesful long term. Some of us can instinctively balance our diet and exercise but most of us are here because we could not. Many wls programs do not want you to count (like mine). My answer to that is I do what I need to do. Knowledge is power. Take control.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
MSW,
You are so right. This is definitely worthwhile info to post because when you track...its hard to lie to yourself. It helps keep you accountable. I do my best when I track my intake and exercise. My problem is that I will forget to track a meal and then I make it okay...to lessen my tracking as time goes on. I need to go back and track the meal whenever I remember, It might not be as accurate but I would be making a statement to myself of the importance of doing this task daily and consistently.
So far I had about 4 tablespoons of goulash that I made last night. I am not feeling well today so I am taking it easy at home

(((Feel better soon.))) Goulash is a european style beef stew am I right? Sure I can look it up but I'm lazy, lol. I'm doing stew beef today myself but Trini style of course.
I've already tracked the ingredients per portion. Most trackers also have a recipe function so you can input the entire pot and specify number of servings for easier tracking. You can even record favorite meals/ combinations of ingredients to use over and over with just one entry.
