HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST
Its been a month and a day since I've been around. Someone close to me was gravely ill and has since passed away. There is no way to describe how it feels to watch someone you love die. All the while knowing your experience is zero compared to what they are experiencing. Nothing you can do or say makes the situation any better. All you can do is whatever is asked of you and hope it is of comfort.
Rather than go into details, I'm going to share something written by my late brother and friend of more than 30 years. He was a marketing executive, jazz musician, play write, and song writer. He owned an entertainment company and was published in all his creative endevours.
This is from a song he wrote ages ago. Why and for whom I do not know. Style of music I can't remember; but, his lyrics are fitting.
He Only Takes the Best
He saw that you were getting tired
And the cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, "Come and follow me."
With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you slip away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands now at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
Said better than I ever could. Closing this chapter between us. Beginning a new one of rememberance.
