help please 3 months postop and stalled
Hello everyone especially the vets...
I had surgery on june 20 and i have lost a total of 46 lbs. That inludes the 13 lbs i lost 2 weeks preop. i know i have lost inches and clothes size i have also realized that i am losing my breast my bras are getting very loose. I'm following my diet getting my protein and liquids I haven't been exercising like i should between work and my daughters cheerleading practices plus my going to school. so instead of working out like i should i walk for an hour twice a week. Things are slowing down again and hopefully i will be able to get back to my work outs. But at this point any advice will be good.
I would recommend looking at your diet. Sometimes I stall when I am sneaking in a bite of this a spoon of that. Also kick up your exercise. Try interval training. walk 2 min and then walk as fast as you can or jog/run for one min. Kick up the cardio and the weight will come off.
Good luck in your journey.

I am not afraid of tomorrow,
for I have seen yesterday
and I love today......
- Right now the body is adjusting. Slow downs and even protracte stalls can be expected. Stick with the program and weight loss will resume.
- We are conditioned to assume that fast wl is the norm. Many of us will not loose quickly after wls. No one tells you this pre op, but a lot of us will loose at the same rate as those who diet alone. Some of us even more slowly. The difference is we will loose and keep it off (about 90% long term success vs about 5% for dieters). Fast loosers post their braging rights all over these boards. Slow loosers often do not post except for questions like this one because they are often criticised for "doing it all wrong".
- Watch the carbs especially refined carbs. While low carb is not for everyone, sugars and simple carbs slow weight loss for many of us. This includes fruit sugars. Choose berries over bananas etc. Look up the glycemic index of foods and choose carbs at the low end. Carbs impact insulin levels and insulin levels impact fat storage.
- Increase your workout time. Twenty minutes a day in addition to your twice weekly walks is doable even on the most busy schedules. Roll out of bed 20 min earlier and start walking or jogging in place at a brisk pace. Up the anti with jumping jacks in between as it becomes too easy. Spread your arms at shoulder height and do high knees intermittently to work the abs and raise the heart rate. Add music to pace yourself. Check out: (http://www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html

- Track your food. A taste here and there may add up to slow downs and stalls so just don't do it. Even tasting what you cook can be detrimental. Make sure you get enough protein and up the protein as you can consume more. Often we add more carbs instead of more protein as our appetites increase. See if you can get 100g of proteein in daily. Also, be sure to include fiber in your diet. A supplement may be beneficial.
- Water. Non caffinated liquids to flush fat burned and other waste is a must. Minimum 64 oz is not enough for many of us. My doc requires 100 oz but most long term maintainers I've talked to go for a full gallon.
Even if you alternate gaining and loosing like I do you will still loose the weight if you stick with the program. Yes, it is frustrating as hell. It may happen in fits and starts but it will happen. Hang in there.
