Has Anyone had RNY (Medicare) ?

Have you had or do you know someone who's had RNY thru Medicare??  If so, was it a pretty smooth process.  My son has Medicare & Humana and is preparing to have his paperwork submitted for the surgery.

I have come accross people who had it done through medicare.  Most had no issues with it as compared to any other insurance. 

At one surgeons info seminar about ten years back it was mentioned that medicare in my state did not pre approve.  Surgeons were taking a gamble they would be paid.  This left those on the borderline with regard to weight/ bmi out in the cold as surgeons had less non payment risk with the patients having greater bmi's and more serious co morbidities.  However, that was long ago. 

About two or three years ago I spoke with a woman who had to go to a border state because no doc nearby accepted medicaid/ medicare combo.  Then the surgeon she  selected could not accept her as a patient without a guarantee of payment because the hospital had difficulty with reimbursements.  This facility required all fees not pre approved paid in full in advance regardless of insurance. 

These were the only negative medicare issues I've heard about.  Good luck to your ds.
