Sugar Question
Hey BAF Family, I had my surgery(RNY) June 27th. So I am into my 7th week. I feel good. All is well. Thank God!. My starting weight was 268. I lost 10 lbs pe-op. Today I got on the scale and it is clocking 225. YAAAAAY! Down a total 43 pounds. I can eat chicken, pork chops, hamburger, etc. pretty much most meats I was eating before WLS. But small portions. Most days I don't feel like I've had any kind of surgery. Thank God! But I can tell when I eat. But in the last couple of weeks I have gotten my appetite back. And I crave. I have been craving something sweet. At first the protein shakes would work that out for me but now " I WANT SOMETHING SWEET"!!! I like cookies ........... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
THis early in the game........ should I..........
Get sugar free cookies? I check for sugar and sugar alcohol.
Bake my own with Splenda?
Eat a regular cookie?
Or ditch the idea altogether??
And can someone tell me when you tried to eat regular foods that did contain sugar and what it was? I know every body is different but I just wanna know.
No answer is just plain wrong, so share your thoughts on this please!!!
Thanks, Sharon

Resist my sista!!........Resist!!.......Why would you want to engage your mind back into the not-so-good habit you had prior to your wls that facilitated you needing it in the first place? Start anew with some better habits. Focus in on those foods in your diet that will nourish and energize you for more beneficial workouts. I'm a former choco-holic! All things chocolate were my best friends! Oh hell.........honestly....all and any thing sweet! Fortunately, the wl procedure zap that desire from my mouth and head for the first year. I indulge a little now, but I think by purposely making the decision not to pick back up on my sweet jones has helped to keep the weight off.
Take advantage of this honeymoon phase the first several months after the procedure. This is the time the tool does a great deal of the work, so try not to throw up road blocks in your program. Do your part! Get in your protein, water and vits!............You can have your desert later.......

Thanks Sister, That was well said. I am not big on chocolates myself. But I do (did) like oatmeal cookies. I have avoided sugars at all cost. I don't even know which fruits to trust at this time. But I was being honest about the naughty little devil that has been hanging around my door. Thanks for the checking me and coming to my rescue...................... Sharon
I love my OH Family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey SyarbroG-5........Forgive me, but I forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss success thus far.........Very well done!!
It's good that you are honest about your cravings. When I did get back to adding a few treats to my diet, I did start with the sugar-free variety of cookies. The trick, as always, is to not over indulge and eat the whole pack at one sitting....lol...........Still .......try to hold off bringing these types of things back to your plate too soon. Let that tool do its thing and keep watcing that scale go down.
Make it a great day!

Opinions vary but in mine you are courting danger. Leave the artificially sweetened treats alone and run far away from real sugar. You are too early post op to even consider cookies an option. So many folks with insufficient weight loss or weight regain in a few years started with having just a "safe" treat. What does your commitment to wls mean to you now vs during the approval process? Are you willing to throw it all away by feeding cravings and food addictions rather than addressing them?
This is a diet for life. Now is the time to learn new habits and rid yourself of the taste for the things that led you to this site. To go back to treats after a few weeks is counter productive. Its thinking like a fat person when you should be emulating the ways of thin persons.
If you must have junkfood try a small atkins bar with 10g prot mimimum and 150 cal maximum, and under 1.5 oz. Buy one rather than a box so you do not overeat. Right now your focus should be protein, exercise, vitamins, water to maximize your weight loss during the period when most people loose easiest. As you get farther out loosing slows and becomes more difficult.

I know that I'm probably going to hear it but.......... I had sugar free popsicles back then and I still eat them now when I crave something sweet. Not sure if that'll fix your craving for oatmeal cookies but since you like oatmeal cookies, why not just eat the oatmeal w/ protein and cinnamon or something like that. I was never really big on sweets prior to surgery and I only crave sweets every now & then.
