Good day everyone. I meet the surgeon next Thursday, July 13th about a revision. I’ve read the average weight loss is 2 to 3 pounds per week and it’s not as fast as RNY. I would like to lose at least 20 pounds per month. So, I have a few questions on my mind that I can’t wait to get answer, if someone can tell me about their experience with Lap Band.

Has anyone lost more weight than that with a proper diet and exercise?

Also, what’s the smallest size your stomach can go to with Lap Band?

Is it worth getting the surgery done as a revision? With so many failure post that I see?

Weight loss with the band depends much on you.  If you are able to lose weight and keep it off with proper diet and exercise you probably don't need the weight loss surgery. The band helps you to eat less of a proper diet and exercise.  I must say that I would not have lost more weight and kept it off without my band.  My stomach size has not changed.  I just have a band around it.
Regarding revision, you probably need to ask someone that has had one.  I don't know what causes failure but they can tell you.  My goal has not been reached but it's not due to my band.  Sometimes you get what you put into a tool.  Wishing you the best.

You have to analyze what your "trigger' foods are.  If you like sweets, ice cream, etc...those will slide right through with a band.  What was your initial surgery type?

There is lots of helpful information on the revision surgery and lap band boards.

The healthy person who looses 20 a month consistently is a myth.  That rate of weight loss is just unrealistic.

Do a little research on credible medical studies.  All surgeries will slow down to 2-3 lbs a week on average if you are lucky.  Most people will see a large drop in the first month or so but by month three nearly all will slow and even plateau.

I had no rapid weight loss at all averaging less than a pound and a half per week for a year and a half to loose 98 lbs.  That's exercising twice a day and following my low carb post op plan.  Its all about how your body works.

Lap bands have a good success rate overall.  People with problems tend to be more vocal than satisfied customers.   I know nothing of revisions but I know dozens of succesful bandsters irl and online. The boards will not give you an accurate perspective on the success and failure rates for any procedure.  People tend to promote what they have, discredit other options, and complain about what they dislike.  Thats not information.

You can fail or succeed on any procedure for a variety of reasons within or outside of your control.  Your need for malabsorption or depends on why you are fat, your metabolism, and other medical issues.   Yes, many loose with diet and exercise; however, the success rate for long term maintenance remains at less than five percent.  That is, many can loose it but they just cannot keep it off.  Then there are those who just cant loose it at all without intervention.

Do a few searches.  Discard physicians sites and message boards.  Read the stats on medical research into obesity.  There are so many good studies out there that will help you decide what is best for you.  Do not forget the non physical aspects of weight loss.  These will quickly derail you on any surgery if not dealt with.

Let your decisions be guided by facts.  Read the studies.  Gain a realistic perspective on average weight loss per week over time.  Malabsoptive procedures will not just melt away the fat.
