MY HOME MADE YOGURT EXPERIMENT
It looks yogurty, definetly smells like yogurt, but I have yet to taste it because its not ready yet. I followed all of the yogurt making steps then when I opened it I discovered there was a step missing from most of the recipes.
The final step, straining off the whey, was omitted. This morning I had to search frantically for how to do this. As it turns out, its easy to do if prepared but I improvised.
My yogurt is still straining leaving just the thick solids. I'm going for a greek yogurt consistency. Starches or thickeners would have made the process faster and resulted in a creamier consistency. However, I did not want the extra calories and carbs.
I'll post a pic and let you know how it taste once its done. Fingers crossed.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
I'm no martha stewart, lol. My yogurt is from almond milk. Dairy kicks in the asthma and soy inflames the thyroid. Almond milk solves the problem so I decided to try it for yogurt.
I like the coconut milk yogurt just fine but at $2 per 6 oz container I'd rather make my own. Half gallon of almond milk is $3.
The process takes a full day but its nearly all processing time so you don't have to bother with it for 2 1/2 hrs to 12 hours at a stretch. I'd say I spent maybe 15 min total actively preparing it. The process is really easy and all you need is a crock pot.

I'll post some info/ links. I need to search my personal 'archives'.
My sister made me aware of this a few years back. One day after some tofu my thyroid became painfully tender and warm to the touch. I was away from home and I did not have a decent endocrinologist or pcp at the time.
I don't have tofu as my main protein anymore and I use soy products sparingly. Too bad because I luv soy in many forms and would have it everry day if I could.

Oh, just thought it required a lot of steps. I like cooking and canning but too many steps and its not happening for me. Making yogurt would probably be ok if I made it on a day I didn't want any. Big problem in cooking sometimes is when you want it now. Tends to feed my grab a snack attitude. May try making yogurt, I only have four crock pots. LOL
With I will succeed.
