Hi everybody-

I'm usually over on the DS board, but I felt this was the best place for this question. You may have posted it before now, so if so, please excuse the repeat.

We've all been hearing about Aretha Franklin's "health problems", her having surgery, and even to the point of the rumored pancreatic cancer.

Is it possible that she has *finally* had WLS? She had to be near the 500 lb. mark - and it was obvious she was not feeling well most of the time. Also...take a look at recent pictures. Down to a 16-18 since late fall/early winter?

Looks like WLS to me! Of course it could be pancreatic cancer, but I don't believe that for a minute!

Anyone care to comment?

Bless the Queen of Soul, she is definitely a National Treasure. When I first heard she'd had surgery I was hoping it was WLS, and was very sad to hear that it was cancer.

She looked beautiful the other night when she was featured on the Grammy telecast. I think, if she were healthier, she would have been there in person. Perhaps she had WLS in order to help her medical team manage her other health problems. I don't know. I wouldn't want to speculate.

I just hope she recovers and gives us many more years of her voice. She is the best!

Your post came up on my friends' wall, and I was just discussing this with a coworker, so I wanted to respond. We're all rooting for Aretha.

Bailey-

Maybe I'm just in denial, but I just don't beleive the cancer story.  She said herself that no one in her family would have said theat she had cancer, and a family member is the alleged source for the pancreatic cancer "confirmation".

I think (hope) she finally saw the light and had WLS.

I hope so, too. I'd rather she have WLS and live a long, happy life!  She really did look great the other night.

I love "The Queen".  She is one of our national treasures no doubt.  I just posted a similar topic on FB.  The old adage goes......"If it looks, walks smell and talks like a duck...."  You know the rest!  However, I am believing The Queen's story until proven otherwise.  I have no reason to say it's not pancreatic cancer.  Whatever her health issues, I pray for her return back to better health.  She looks amazing with the weight loss....Kinda like us all huh?...lol

Yeah she is definitely doing a "Star Jones". I dont see the point of not admitting it in the first place. Whats the big deal?

Yep...that's what I think.  I just heard yesterday about her "holistic" diet and giving up the pig feet, chitlin's and ham hocks.

I remember watching a BET  salute to her a few years ago, and although she had on this billowy dress,  you could see that she was uncomfortable and sqweezed  into the seat.

I know about that....I used to have the same problem, and I know what that posture looks like!

As I watched the taped telecast I was screaming to the tv WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY!  I said something to a friend of mine the next day and almost got my head bit off due me saying it being the QUEEN.  Come clean, former big girl.  Patti Austin had it and is open about it.  I saw her in concert before her surgery and after.  She has more energy and her voice is still powerful and great.  Some may say it is none of our business but she made it so  by the "cancer" story which she denies now.

Yep, I agree!  I get that some people feel like failures because they had surgery to lose weight, but it seems to me that there's nothing to be ashamed about...since you finally admit that you have a problem and take action to fix it!

I've been nothing but happy since my surgery, and it's all I can do to keep from shouting it from the rooftops!
