How Much Exercise...

I'm a fan of the "Biggest Loser" and I watch week after week at the weight the contestants are losing.  I know on the ranch they work out for hours at a time. I know that I will probably never get the results that they get by working out in a weeks time, but how many hours a day or week should we be exercising?

It all depends on your fitness level.  30min a day, 5xs a week is a typical 'standard' amount I hear a lot.

But it's also about whaat CAN and WILL you do consistently.  No use working out 1hr, 5 days a week then you hit goal and act like the gym is a non child support paying baby daddy........ hehehehehehe

I personally do 30min of strength training 3xs a week, run in the gym 2xs a week and on Sunday mornings, I do a long run.  Now - that's 6 days a week for me - but it's a schedule *I* choose to keep and can handle.

So, I'd say focus on consistency rather than frequency or duration for the time being.  One of the biggest things about WLS is altering your LIFE and HABITS - not just creating a program for the moment.  Work through finding activities you like to do - that way, you'll make more of an effort to make time for it.

Good luck!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

on the shows "heavy" and i used to be fat" i believe they work out about 4 hours a day.
i personally find it unrealistic for real life. i work out about 20-25 minutes 6 days a week. in the spring, i will start walking about 2 miles a day in additon to the arobics and weight training. i am hoping that increasing my work out time starting in april will help me loose the last 35-40 lbs i need to loose.

I agree you have to find a workout you can actually do and stick with.  You also have to remember our bodies are smart so we also have to switch it up from time to time.  I workout 30 minutes about 4 or 5 times a week or more.

Thanks for the relies...I agree 3 to 4 hours a day is a bit much.  Just wanted to make sure that I am on the right track.  I am planning to workout 30 to 45 mins a day if its nothing but walking on the treadmill.  Need to tighten this stuff up!

Whooohoooooo!!!  A lady on a mission......  Now I know you are serious and tired of it all.  You can do it!!  I agree with the posters *****commended consistency more so than what and how long you do.  So important on all levels of our journey.  Keep up the good work!

I workout 2 - 2 1/2 hours everyday except Sunday. informally workout a hour and a half a day but i'm on a mission right now.

I believe that for a person to lose weight they need to workout 6days a week because 3 days a week is maintenance not losing ststus. But I speak for me.

Find what works for you and do that.

Thanks Lee...I have been lurking and reading your post so I know you're always on a mission.  I know right now I'm going to have to step up my game to see some early results.  I'll see how my body reacts to the SHOCK!  Thanks again.
