One of my Kids with Autism FREAKED out on the "N" word

OK guys I am so torn right now if torn is the correct word.   I have a student who is very race sensitive, and we were watching a movie today about history and they said the "N" word.

She jumped up put her hands on her ears and started screaming THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE, I DON'T LIKE THAT WORD.  THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE, I DON'T LIKE THAT WORD.

So her one on one aid got her and calmed her down, and I had her listen to her freaking ipod to settle herself down.   My God she freaking freaked yall.   So her aid and myself explained to her that people back in the "old" days spoke that way and it's not nice or right, but they use to do it.   She got pist and said that white people are mean and she won't be one anymore.

Now i'm sitting at home and thinking about it all and i'm like Oh ****!!!!!   This movie is a pg movie and all but yet and still.

Well you at least know she was raised in an eviornment that was not blatantly racist.  My daughter had a student that was enrolled in the klan's program for racists with developmental disabilities.  Parents encouaged racial epethets then blamed it on being retarded.  Had some staff refusing to work with the kid.

I'm worried about her going home and telling her parents some crazy stuff.  Becca told me that she had her for a year and that she was like that then.

Her aid told me that they watch Forest Gump in class and she always gets mad and says I don't like the way white people use to treat black peope.

Wish I had known all this before.

My daughter is outside of the school system.  They keep behavior logs for just su*****idents.  This way they have a record and a history.  Less is left open to speculation.

Did you get to speak to the school counselor or principal?

No,  since it just happened yesterday i'm waiting to see how she is today.   Her one on one said this is nothing unusual for her and she is sensitive to that word and to certain food names, so if you say pineapple for example she will freak like that.

So I am going to give it a day or two and let it blow over like i'm thinking it will, after hearing of her sensitivity outbursts,  if not then i'll address it on Monday.

I am going to see her regular teacher tonight and see what he thinks, but I know he is going to say stop trippin.

I got the diagnosis of autism.  I think the sensitivity to the word "******" is interesting.

Some of the kids are just strange and have these really weird idiosyncrasies.  Some of them hate to be touch and if you accidently touch them they will freak.

We have this one boy that is so sweet and very tinker bellish  lol, but whenever he sees anything green he has to touch it and if he can't touch it he gets horrible anxiety.

It is amazing what autism does to these kids minds.
