The ignorance of others....

So..my day starts off with a coworker pulling me aside to tell me that the "huge fat lady" on our floor is returning to work today after having gastric bypass...and someone thought it was funny to order pizza for their team today to celebrate her return.  WTF? So I obviously informed him that I too had gastric bypass and I don't find this funny at all. His mouth dropped. He turned red.  Then tried to make it better by saying how well I've done and how he would have never guessed I was fat. GTFOH.  too late.  Your ignorance has shown and I don't need to associate with u. 


The ingorance of others never cease to amaze me.

Is there some way you could do something bariatric friendly for her?

I thought about letting her know that i've been through the same procedure as her, so if she needed someone to talk to i'd be there.  But the sad thing is, i don't even know who she is. So i'll have to ask around for someone to point her out.  i'm new to this office (transferred from NY), so that makes the situation even worse---why is this co-worker spreading this kind of information to people who don't even know this other employee?  What was the purpose for all of this?

There are petty, mean-spirited bullies in the world and fat people are an easy target.  People like him made my life miserable when I wa a kid.  It sounds like he and his office cronies never grew out of that grade school mentality.  He made the mistake of thinking you would jump on the bandwagon to laugh at her.

Its ok to be mean and hateful where fat people are concerned.  Just don't so much as disagree with how anyone else lives or you'll find yourself in a ****load of trouble. 

We are the only folks left for the world to riddicule with impunity.  Political correctness not required.  Human decency not an issue. 
You will eventually learn who she is and you can be supportive without getting into the office bull****  She'll appreciate it.

And because *I* am evil - I'd use the whole incident as 'leverage' and either make the mofo work harder and/or pawn off a couple things to him just cause....... oh - and I would have responded to his 'never woulda guessed you were fat' comment with 'really? thanks! and I would have NEVER guessed you were so STUPID'........

WWJD?  Saying what needs to be said is the Christian thing to do.  You go Ms#1MM.  Remember Jesus and the money changers at the temple?  No one got away with **** on his watch.  You're a better example of good Christan living than you think.  Or, I'm headed straight to hell for seeing things that way.       

Guess it's time for me to head back to church, cause I sho don't know which way that rule splits......

just in case, and in a show of solidarity, my sista - I'll pass on the 93 octane gas to you for your draws, and use the 87 on mine - giving you the better quality for a cleaner burn and all......
