Gurl! I jus****ched Basketball Wives for the first time this past weekend. I was skimming the Channels and just liked how fly these very pretty women all looked in their attire....that's what caught my attention first. BUT I must admit their drama is very entertaining and seems true to life. I got caught up...and watched several episodes in one setting. I had a laid back day for a change. I liked the fact that I did not see too much Ghetto hype...at least not in the episodes I watched. Jennifer needs to go ahead and get her 75% (lol! ) and leave that bumpy head cheating fool to move on as he requests. I laughed at Evelyn's date.....Aquarius rhymes with Sagittarius...lol! What a dud. I would have definitely sent out an SOS too!

What *I* hate is that there's not been any Black movie entertainment in the vein of Boomerang or Waiting to Exhale - remember the blockbuster Black movies that showed is in a GOOD light? Professionals with issues, but handing things well?
Well...There's a reason for all of that. Oh trust me... there's a reason for that.
That fickle beast known as Hollyweird is basically a quadratic algebra equation with a drug habit:
any plot (w/T&A or marketing toys that can be sold)+ minimal production * generated attention / popular buzz * greed = gross profit > DVD sales * potential to make it a franchise
They had it great in the heyday of Hollyweird when movie execs could just churn out anything and people would flock to see it. As a result if people walked away from it saying that they didn't like what was shown then the critics, paid off by the producers, told the masses that the viewing public was the problem because they didn't fully understand art. Nowadays, with all of these college educated writers, producers, and actors around in abundance, I find it very hard to believe that it's still the viewing public's fault if we don't want to see another slave pic
; or poor dysfunctional black family film
; or a bunch of fools stomping around in the college quad or dancing up a fever-pitch on the big screen.
But, the good ol' movie execs, sticking to the formula above, don't care if we feel good about what we just saw on the screen. As long as they make a profit there will be more to come just like the one we just saw.
This whole Tyler Perry thing, while okay, just isn't up to par for me and certainly Pootie Tang, Soul Plane and this other bull just have me smh.........
Pootie Tang was caca but I think it made it to big screen based on Chris Rock's fame. However, when he put out "I loved my wife" they fronted on him and left him out there to fend for himself. The writer of Soul Plane should go jump in a freezing lake over and over again ,,.and then drown himself.

To tell the truth - I didn't think I love my Wife was up to par either.
Soul FOOD is the last good and tight joint I have seen..... and I loved the Showtime series! That was really good TV - especially getting to see them mofos nekkid...... oh - and the family interaction was portrayed real good too.... LOL!!!!
Seriously tho - My wife and kids, The Browns, and these other 'Black family' sitcoms are such crap to me - MAN I miss the Cosby show!!!! A Black Doctor married to a Black FEMALE Lawyer - groundbreaking. Probably the first time SOME folks even thought of the idea......... folk don't dream things until they see them. My whole career drive to be a Director is from SEEING a Black Female Director at one of my first jobs - single, sharp and on POINT! Before that, it simply never occured to me.
Barack and Michelle can only shoulder and provide so much inspiration......

That's because Chris directed it. He should've hired another director that was actually good and he would have had a much better product.

That's one of the few times that I ever thought the TV series was better than the movie that spawned it.

Word.
It's like we peaked with that show and then suddenly we started slipping back down that slope into buffoonery again.

Earth-shattering too. You know how many people (primarily black people) who were against that concept at first. Then almost overnight it became accepted.

That's great. I hear ya. We as a people have to strive for more than what someone else's vision of us is. If we just settled for that then we'd be still out in the fields sharecropping and not buying and owning our own homes.

True indeed.
