keloids after Laproscopic WLS surgery

Hello everyone. I'm a new member to obesityhelp, will have surgery by the end of the year, and am getting myself familiar with this site and what it offers. Hadn't known there was a site for Black Americans, which is great!

I have a question that I haven't been able to address elsewhere: has anyone had any keloids resulting from laproscopic surgery, RNY in particular? If so, what medications/ointments/tips can you suggest to me to minimize their appearance, as I'm pretty keloid-prone from deep incisions.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome!  I was an OH member for 5 yrs before finding this forum, lmao.

I don't know anything about keloids but lap rny scars are pretty small.   Even if you have scarring it would be five or six little ones.  My big incision was perhaps 2" long with the next biggest about an inch and the smllest just a dot frpm the drainage tube.

Any way you look at it, scars are better than fat.  At least for me they are.  Best wishes ...

hello!  with any surgery, if you are prone to keloid, then you will keloid.  there's no way around it.  however, if you do start to see your scars forming into keloids, you can see a dermatologist who can inject some cortisone into the scar to make the keloid go away.  even after the scar smoothes out from the injection, the keloid can still come back.  another injection is your option.  good luck!

I had one tiny keloid on one of my port areas, but it flattened out just this year.

Thanks much for the replies, everyone! I'd forgotten about cortisone injections as an option and I'll definitely look into that.
