Hair Question from a newbie... ???
I'm been lurking on here for awhile now, and I see on a lot of the forums that people mention hair loss after WLS. I'm all natural when it comes to my hair, so I wanted to know if there was a difference in hair loss with natural hair or relaxed hair ... or if the hair loss is the same?
Thanks for the feedback! I'm new here and I've been learning a lot and gaining a lot of info from EVERYONE and it's been really helpful!

My hair is medium length (right on shoulder) and all natural. Rarely do I heat style and I condition wash regularly. In my opinion this routine keeps my hair strong with no breakage issues.
I had hair loss as in thining. It left from the scalp but no breakage. Biotin has helped a lot. If I had it to do it over I would start biotin with my post op vit routine rather than wait until after hair loss started.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
My hair started shedding at about 6-9 months post-op...I had really thick hair (relaxed) so I wasn't going beserk over it. One thing though....the texture kind of changed. My surgeon told me to take Biotin as part of my daily regimen. I also did cholesterol treatments and used a protein-based shampoo.
My hair was natural and thick. Now my hair is so thin it looks like I have Alopecia
I think in the begginng I wasn't getting enough protien and I wasn't taking my vitamins regularly.
I'm now taking my vitamins and i have at least 1 protien shake a day in addition to my other mostly protien based meals.
I also wear weaves and I'm sure that causes damage.
I've heard your hair grows back. I'm hoping thats true.
That all said though I'd rahter be bald than weigh what I used to weigh.
As I said I buy hair anyway.
Best of luck on your surgery!

My hair thinned alot. I am/was also under alot of undue stress.
I took Biotin and protein supplements from the start. I bought a wig piece that is supposed to be worn 1-2" from the hairline. I put it on in the middle of my head (ear to ear part) and you could still see straight through my thin hair to the wig.
I pay attention to my protein intake, take biotin 2x a day (morning and night) and I stopped perming (last touch up- Valentine's day or Easter). My hair is thicker and longer than it was but still very thin.
I agree with the poster who said they would do it again for the weightloss trade.
