So I got my annual review at work, and apparently I am "Negative, and Aggressive".

Think I'll just print up my favorite quote to add to my employee file rather than sign the piece of crap paper my review is written on.

The fact that the adult American Negro female emerges a formidable character is often met with amazement, distaste and even belligerence. It is seldom accepted as an inevitable outcome of the struggle won by survivors, and deserves respect if not enthusiastic acceptance. -Maya Angelou

LOL!!! If you add that shyt - you're proving the point!!!!!  hahahahhahahha

2 reviews ago, I was cited as 'negative and not a team player' - because mofos thought all I did was shoot down their requests/ideas/feedback.

my CURRENT boss sat back and studied - and realized that it's not me being negative, it's that I can process through possiblities and scenarios, calculate risk/reward and issues quicker than any of these mofos can think one sentence - it wasn't that any of the shyt they wanted could be done in the end, but that I was so quick and blunt with the 'no'

Solution?  I do a 'delayed response' - I listen to every request and only say 'let me research some things and get back to you' - then I wait between half and a full business day to say 'HEYL NO'.  Result?  Everyone now thinks I go the extra mile to consider their bullshyt!

Managing perception is not about how YOU feel about you - it's about creating a you that other mofos want to deal with - and yes- it IS part of your job to do so.  You can be the real you when you leave work.

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......

Yes i'm going to have to agree with the Mack, adding that Maya Angelou quote is not a good idea.

It is about presenting an image that "they" find desirabe.   Just by our nature we can be preceived as aggressive and angry because we don't like to take any bull**** but when your on the job you have to take a bit of bull**** because business is built on a pile of bull****

That is why I had to leave the corporate world.   I am my own boss in my classroom and don't have to deal with administration very much at all.

Its a sad shame how we (black woman) are perceived just because we command respect and are authoritative by nature. Unfortunately we have to tone it down to appease others even in our personal life.

believe me.....we black men experience the same thang...(i've heard it referred to as the "angry black man syndrone".

being a ssg for many years in the army...i really have to be aware this perception.  it worked well in the military...but out here in the corporate landscape.....................not so much.)

My husband's last job was with steel workers and truck drivers.
They had a very different work culture.  So much overblown testosterone there that if you get pink Nestle's milk off the break truck, they'd call you a punk.    Cussing folk out was the norm.

To be honest. No.  I'm the only fly in the milk up in here and I'm sure it doesn't help that I recently started wearing my hair in an afro puff to work.  I'm guessing my plan to full out fro my hair with the fist pick  and rock a 70's look for the Halloween party might be a bad idea
