All, I'm ready to make a change. I chicken out back in 2005 to have the surgery. I spent 16 months preparing for the surgery. Went through three denials before I got approved. Lost 50 pounds before surgery. I reported for surgery at 5:00am for a 7:00am surgery and chicken out. The nurse was prepring me for surgery, IV, compression boots, shot in stomach and I talked with the Surgeon and Anesthesiologist.   The nurse came to me and showed my wife and brother some paper work that she forgot to get me to sign the day before. Wife started to cry, brother started to pray. The nurse showed me the paper that listed posibale complications, every other sentence was possible death. Being superstition I decided it was not my time for the surgery. 5 years later and much closer to death do to health concerns I'm ready.  We have moved 4 times since then, From Roswell New Mexico, Spencer Oklahoma, Baton Rougr La, San Fancisco Ca. and now Medina New York.  This time my wife will have the surgery also. After the last baby she gained alot of weight with no luck loosing it. Tomorrow we meet with our Surgen  for the first time.
All, Please pray for us that we stay on track and let GOD's will be done.
If you want to see what my life was like the first time around please read my old post.

It was a nearly nine year decision making process for me.  You're just not ready until you're ready.  Best wishes to you both.

Wow - I had surgery in 2005.  We would have been surgery buddies.

Don't be moved from your decision this time.  Even though there is nothing about this journey that is easy - there IS light at the end of the tunnel.  If you want - take some time to read my blog on here - you will see that the road hasn't been the smoothest, but I've worked it.

As for fear of death - you need to talk more to your doc about his technique, his history and his thoughts on your success.  Every surgery, even a small one, can lead to death.  hell - driving your car to work every day could lead to death - the question isn't whether you will die or not - it's can you continue to live if you don't even try?

I point blank asked my doc how many people he's killed.  And he straight up answered me '2' - but revisions - he's never lose a first timer.  And at the time he had done over 1,000 of my procedure and he particularly dealt with higher than usual BMI patients.  At the time I had surgery, I was so big, there were a couple of other docs unwilling to take me on.

Best of luck to you - make sure you stick around and read and participate - it will keep you motivated and on track!

I don't just have issues, I have subscriptions!  I'm saving on the newsstand price.......
