Low carb. vs Low Cal.
I did low carb & low calorie (combined) for my first 10 months post op. After that, i added back in carbs and jus****ched the calories. That helped me get tot my goal weight and now maintaining. I now believe in moderation, not elimination.
Highest Weight : 361 (pre-op diet) | Surgery Weight : 311 | Current Weight : 181
I did not want to start with the elimination of carbohydrates because I know once I add them back in I will lose control and gain my weight back. I just want to choose healthy, but find it hard to change my eating habits still. Each day I am starting over. I need to find what really works for me. I might have to do what you did because I find low carb and cal combination works well. Thanks..
You have done an awesome job. I sure hope to one day reach my goal and maintain.

Get out of my head @ I did not want to start with the elimination of carbohydrates because I know once I add them back in I will lose control and gain my weight back.
I am extremely carb sensitive. However, for the almost two months I have been low carbing and it helped me to lose the weight that I had gained during July and August. At this point, I am at a major plateau. I was hoping my final week of low carbing would put me under 185...but not yet...as of this a.m. 188.2. I think my body has gotten "used to" the low carbing and I need to try something different. I am transitioning into Weigh****chers over the upcoming weekend and pray that the reintrodcution of carbs will not push me back up to 190.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown
Set youself a carb limit based on your needs. Add carbs back slowly say 10-20g daily and hold that level for a week. When you stop loosing or start gaining you know your carb limit.
Of course make sure your calories stay in line if you count them. Too often we add back carbs without cutting back somewhere else. If you're not carb sensitive it could be the excess calories from those carbs causing you issues and not the carbs themselves.

I tend to gain weight when I slip into grazing and/or overindulging in unhealthy food. In my situation it's usually related to hormonal fluctuations.
The most effective weight loss method that I've found is simply working the tool. I eat just until my pouch is full and then I stop. When I do this consistently, my weight always goes back to normal.
I don't count calories or carbs and no food is forbidden. That being said, I do lean toward healthier food choices most of the time and I usually eat protein first. This morning, for example, I had a boiled egg and half a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast. That should hold me until around lunch time.
We're all different though, so whatever works for you, do it! Good luck.
Low carbing. When I low carb, I feel "leaner". When I indulge in excess carbs I tend to feel bloated, heavy, general discomfort in the abdominal area, gassy....ughhh!
But sadly, it's easier to eat high carb items. I might not be able to eat but a couple pieces of chicken, but I can jack up an entire large bag of Doritoz.

Its a combination. My surgeon's plan is roughly 1100-1200 calories with carbs from produce. After six months one small serving of whole grain starchy carbs is allowed daily. (1/4 cup starch or 1/2 oz of nuts) Preferably right after your workout.
I count everything. However, the protocol only requires me to count protein.
